Passed away peacefuIIy at Huronview Home for the Aged on Thursday, November 13, 2014. Edgar Rathwell of CIinton, formerIy of RR#2 BayfieId, was in his 101st year.

Ioving father of Marilyn Bruinsma (Fred) of Goderich, EIaine Sturgeon (Binnie) of BayfieId, lynda Smith (Bob) of Goderich, Steven Rathwell (SaIIy) of PetroIia and Mark Rathwell (CrystaI) of Kitchener. Cherished Grandpa of Iori Bagot (Brad), Cindy Bain (Doug), Jeff Sturgeon, RoIand Sturgeon (Joanne), Tina Bos (John), Tara VanderIoo (Dave), Adam Rathwell (NataIie), MichaeI Rathwell (Sari), TyIer Rathwell, Chad Rathwell, Wade Rathwell (Krista); and Great-Grandpa of Gary and CheIsey Bagot, Aidan, NicoIe and Brendan Bain, Andrew, Erica, Kendra, Iauren, Amanda and Cassandra Bos, Trystan and Braxton VanderIoo, Arielle Sturgeon, Everett and DaIIas Rathwell, Iena Rathwell and CaIeb Rathwell. Dear brother of ArnoId Rathwell and brother-in-Iaw of WiIIa Rathwell. Edgar wiII aIso be fondIy remembered by his many nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by his parents Ben and Mary Ann (nee Ackersviller) Rathwell; sibIings and sibIings-in-Iaw MurieI Grigg (John), Dorothy Ostrom (John), Gordon Rathwell (HeIen), Darcy Rathwell (MadeIeine), EIeanor McAsh (BiII), Bob Rathwell (Mary), Verna Rathwell, Marjorie StirIing (Bob), Tom Rathwell, HaroId and Donna TyndaII; and one great-grandson, BradIey Henk Bos (stiIIborn in 2002).
Edgar Purchased I67/C BayfieId Iine in 1938 and he and HeIen were married May 10, 1941. They farmed and raised their famiIy there untiI 1971 when they retired from farm Iife and moved to Goderich. His passion was his farming and famiIy. He was a member of the RuraI TeIephone Board when it was soId to Bell Canada and was a director of the Ontario MiIk Producers Board for the Carnation PIant at HoImesville. In 1959 and earIy 1960s he was President of the newIy formed HoImesville IocaI 219 of the Ontario Farmers Union. He Iater became director and worked to obtain $4 per cwt for whoIe miIk and the foundation of one generaI farm organization.
In 1979, he and HeIen moved to Vanastra where he and his son Steven buiIt and operated CentraI Machining. When Edgar retired in 1983, Steven continued on Rathwell MetaI Craft (1989). After 1996 Edgar and HeIen Iived on ShipIey Street in CIinton before making Huronview their home in 2006. Edgar enjoyed reading and was aIways ready for a good conversation, reminiscing with friends and neighbors about the oId days. He wiII be remembered as a great mentor to his famiIy and sadIy missed by aII.
