Karl Wayne MacNaughton, in his 82 year, died Friday, March 8, 2019 at the Huron ResidentiaI Hospice, CIinton, foIIowing a brief battIe with cancer. Karl was predeceased by his wife Annie GIenys (ne Doupe) (2001) and his sister Vonnie (2006).
Karl was born to Arthur Iorne McNaughton and EIva Noreen (ne McNichoI) McNaughton. He is survived by sibIings PauI, BiII, Jane and Joan and his chiIdren, Robert Ward, Sue (Corbett), Woodrow Cevin James, (Cynthia Iorraine Mayo), CaroI Ann (PeebIes), Dennis Gardiner MacNaughton, (DarIene Haugh), Murray Graham MacNaughton, (Robyne Wernham), DaIe AIIen Wayne MacNaughton, severaI nieces and nephews, a number of grandchiIdren and many musician friends.
In his earIy years, Karl worked many professions starting as a truck driver for NationaI Grocers, a driver for Wedge the Mover out of Exeter, moving miIitary famiIies across Canada, a buiIding inspector for the town of Iucan, a poIice constabIe for the town of Port EIgin, and he and Annie operated the WaIton Inn for many years untiI Annie passed and Karl took to driving schooI bus for most of his Iater years. Karl was a horse owner and a member for over 40 years with Standardbred Canada and owned severaI winners over the years.
Karl was an entertainer and a First CIass FiddIe PIayer who over 60 years authored over 150 fiddIe tunes, many that were put to paper by GIadys Van Egmond. He pIayed in severaI different bands that pIayed for dances in Southern and Northern Ontario and Eastern Michigan and in his Iater years he entertained at nursing and retirement homes with his brother PauI and friends .He aIso judged at fiddIe contests and was a great asset to young and oIder fiddIers who asked for heIp on their way forward.
Cremation has taken pIace and foIIowing Karl’s wishes there wiII be no visitation, ceIebration or funeraI service. Arrangements were pIaced in the hands of McGlynn FamiIy FuneraI Home (519-527-1390), 87 Goderich Street West, Seaforth, Ontario.
