Suddenly, at his residence in London on Thursday, November 7, 2019, formerly of Exeter in his 89th year. Beloved husband of the late Mary Olive Horn (Wharry) for almost 65 years. Together, they created a loving family with their four children Kathy (Bob) Wallace, Rusty (Marj) Horn, Patty (Allan) Case, and Joan (Andy) Black. A proud grandfather to his grandchildren; Kristen (Brad), Andrew (Julie), Wendy (predeceased), Stephanie (Al), Marsha, Liz (Greg), Ben, Alana, Sammy, Laurin, and Connor, as well as an adored Great Grandfather (GG) to his ten great-grandchildren.
After immigrating to Canada in 1951 John worked hard as a farm hand in the Kirkton area. He then pursued a career at NoSag Springs in London and met the love of his life, Mary. He purchased the farm in 1975 allowing him to get back to his agricultural roots – particularly his vegetable garden. Farming was one of his joys and lifelong pleasures. While John and Mary have a circle of friends too numerous to list, their time in Exeter and London, as well as at the farm, will always hold a special place. Whether it be through lawn bowling, euchre, shuffleboard, nickel bingo, or volunteering at VON, they were never short on meaningful connections. John is the last surviving member of his siblings. John is survived by his sister-in-law Jean Martin and brother-in-law Jim Wharry. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany. We would sincerely like to thank those who helped John stay in his home for all these years.
Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN where the funeral service will be held on Friday, November 15th at 1:30 PM with Bob Heywood officiating. Interment Mars Hill Cemetery, North Middlesex.
In lieu of sending flowers, please consider sending donations to Salvation Army, Heart and Stroke, VON (Exeter), or a charity of your choice.

We at Forest Hill Proudfoot Seniors Club will really miss John. He was always easy to get along with and had lots of stories to tell from the time of the Nazi’s to tales of the farm. He was an avid attendee at most of our functions and really enjoyed playing euchre. He and Mary were always a subject of conversation. Mary ringing the bell when she thought coffee break should be over despite all the protests. We express our deep condolences to the family.
