Lewis (Lewie) Tasko died peacefully, at South Huron Hospital in Exeter, on Jan. 25, in his 94th year. Loving husband of Madalene (Phillips) of Exeter; father of Patti (Greg Keenan) of Toronto, Mary Lou (John Foss) of Grand Bend, and Stephen (Denise Sonier) of Portage, Mich. Grandfather to Kathleen, Erin and Patrick Keenan; and Hayden, Grayson and Nicholas Tasko. Pre-deceased by his son-in-law, Paul Chambers, and his sisters Helen and Margaret.
Lewie was born in Hungary and emigrated with his parents to Canada as a toddler. He took over his father’s farm on Tasko Road south of Centralia and farmed there for more than 60 years before retiring, with Madalene, to Exeter, in 2011.
His family will remember Lewie for his caustic wit and caring ways. He enjoyed travelling, reading biographies, especially ones about his favourite actor James Cagney, and searching for the perfect fishing spot. His family always came first, whether it was helping with a move, building furniture or fixing a plumbing leak. His passion for CNN and newspapers kept him up to date to his final days.
Funeral services are private. Haskett Funeral Home, Exeter (519-235-1220) entrusted with arrangements. Donations in memory of Lewie can be made to South Huron Hospital in Exeter, whose staff took such good care of him in his final days.
