At the Bluewater Rest Home on Friday, March 13th, 2020, George Thomas Haggitt of Zurich, passed away in his 84th year. Beloved husband of the late Mary Haggitt (2010). Dear father of Shelley and Kevin Geoffrey of Zurich, John Haggitt of Zurich, Michael and Linda Haggitt of Zurich, and Paul and Louise Haggitt of Hensall. Loved by his grandchildren Nate and Brandi, Vicki, Zach; Natasha and Virgil; Ricky, Josh and Jordyn, Jess and Jules; Kyle, Lauren, Jesse and Jacob. Loved by his great-grandchildren Mace, Thomas, Bentley, Brianna, Blair, Breleigh, Hunter and Brayden. Survived by his brother Steve Haggitt. Predeceased by his sons Richard and Patrick, and brother Kenney Haggitt.
In 1964 George and Mary Haggitt moved to Zurich. George came here from Auburn to work for the Huron County highways. George’s kids have great memories of riding on snowplows and graders. He was lucky to have worked his dream job until he retired. He was very involved in the community; every kid came to him to get their skates sharpened, he was also on the Zurich Council and BWRH board. He loved hunting and fishing and going up North with his friends. He was a great ball and hockey player, and also coached hockey for many years. When the grandchildren came along they decided to buy a boat, which the grandchildren have many fond memories of staying, fishing and swimming on the boat. He would come and watch and cheer the kids on at sporting events. He was a great father and grandfather and was always there for everyone. To watch Dad who is such a strong, smart man, over the years battle with dementia has been very hard. Thank God for the memories.
Cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at Ball’s Cemetery at a later date. Haskett Funeral Home, ZURICH entrusted with arrangements.
Donations to the Bluewater Zurich Community Centre would be appreciated by the family.
