1945-2020
Betty Ann Lamport of Ilderton (formerly of Usborne Township) died at 2:05pm on May 19, 2020 with her best friends at her side: Glen Lamport, her beloved husband of 37 years, and Jean Varey, her cherished confidant of 65 years. Betty Ann’s leave-taking was full of strength and care and love.
Medical trauma was part of Betty Ann’s life from the time she was a teenager until her last days. That her final hospital stay occurred during a global pandemic proves either that Betty Ann continued to have the absolute worst medical luck ever or that she embodied a flare for the dramatic right to the end. Of course, Betty Ann was more than her health problems. Her life was filled with other things: school, marriage, divorce, re-marriage, work, parenting, step-parenting, grand-parenting. She was the very best of parents. She was an elementary school secretary and later, with Glen, farm owner-operator. She was also a daughter, sister (part of that infamous band of Young siblings), aunt, friend, and human companion to her sweet dog, Zoey.
After Betty Ann and Glen retired, RV life allowed them to hit the road together, travelling all over Canada, the US, and Mexico. Their journey to Alaska remained their absolute favourite adventure. Betty Ann lived her life fully and completely, finding and giving joy wherever possible.
There are no words and too many words for what Betty Ann meant and will continue to mean to all of us. In the notes and phone calls we’ve received since her death, her people have described her as a “singular soul,” “life force,” “wonderful storyteller,” and “great listener.” She had “beautiful eyes,” “an “infectious smile,” a “curious mind,” and an “enduring grace.” She was the “strongest woman who ever was.”
We’d like to thank the doctors and nurses at University Hospital who cared for Betty Ann in emergency, ICU, general medicine, and palliative care in her final few days. Covid-19 is making their already demanding jobs even more difficult, and we appreciate their efforts to keep us informed and connected.
Betty Ann has been cremated and there will be a private burial in Exeter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Humane Society of London and Middlesex or to My Sister’s Place, two organizations close to her heart, are welcome. Haskett Funeral Home, LUCAN entrusted with arrangements (519-227-4211).
When the pandemic ends, we will gather family and friends for a proper party to celebrate her in style. In the meantime, we invite you to hold her close with us, despite physical distancing, and to imagine her throwing her head back and laughing that distinctive Betty Ann laugh, pain-free and assuring us all we’ll be okay.
“I summon you now / Not to think of / The ceaseless battle / With pain and ill health, / The frailty and the anguish. / No, today I remember / The creator, / The lion-hearted.” (May Sarton)

I would like to acknowledge a very beautiful soul.
Betty Ann was many things to many people. That was because the essence she exuded was easily captivated by those she shared herself with.
Many remarkable heartfelt stories we could touch upon. However they could seem endless.
My mom has been a very dear dear friend to Betty Ann. A fearless woman in her own Right. True, heartache and hardships could have deflated her sails..but not Betty Ann. She soldiered through each barrier life presented, with resilience to be admired by the many.
Thank you Betty Ann. Thank you for always being You.
The memory of your loving and courageous Being, lives inside everyone you’ve ever touched. And there are many..
God Bless Every One of Us❤️

To all the family, Betty Ann was such a friendly and enthusiastic person. She was fun to be around and always welcoming. We would just pop in when we were close to their home and she always said come one in. Even when we brought her and Uncle Glen treats in March during the pandemic. She was a hostess of the mostess. Lots of hugs to you all The Campbell Family

Joan I can’t find any words to express my sorrow at your loss of Betty Ann especially so soon after Carol. I know Betty Ann suffered in silence for many, many years so hopefully she is now pain free and at peace. I had no idea when I talked to you and Carol at Donna’s funeral that she wasn’t well. What a topsy- turvey world we live in, when you can read of one of the neighbour ‘s kids you watched grow up and walk with her best friend to school, laughing and having fun, has passed. Her smiles belied the fact that Betty Ann had her cross to bear as a teen -ager. but I am sure you all have many treasured memories to keep close.
My deepest sympathy,
Dorothy Revington.

I sent Betty Añn a message Sat AM & when she didn’t respond quickly I assumed she was having a bad day. Little did I know how bad a day she was enduring, when Joan and Mame contacted me I was in shock, couldn’t believe it. She was planning on watching Pam race this season, she made a bet 1 night and won, I guess I will hang onto the winnings. If there is a heaven that’s where you will find her… Our best to Paul Joan and Mame..
Jean and Gord
ps our best to Jean Marie as well, I know what’s it like to lose a great friend…
