Was so sad to hear that Don died recently, and wish to send all the Bazelys my fondest regards at this sad time. Don was my 2nd cousin. I knew his sister Gloria quite well, as she often used to spend school holidays with us in Surrey. But I have renewed my friendship with the Bazely’s in the last few years via Ancestry.com, through Paul Bazely. He updated me on the whole family and enabled me to have access to photos of all the Bazelys, which has been a delight. Donald’s paternal granny Louisa Mary Hollingsworth was sister to my maternal granny Kathleen Blanche Hollingsworth. My love goes to all the family. Katy Duffell (nee Bullock), Wiltshire, England

Marry, This note comes a little late because we are having some health issues of our own.
I enjoyed harmonising with Don, He helped Rural roots on several occasions, with shows, singing valentines and performances. As a lead, I would just put it out there and wait to see what don would do with it. It was such fun to sing with him. This gentleman will be greatly missed by all.

Mary and ‘The Clan’.
We go back a long way with the Bazelys. From Pat and I teaching most of the kids to that memorable baptism at the Cathedral for Sarah.
We will never hear ‘Lord of the Dance’ without laughing about the greatest and goofiest celebration for our daughter.
May Don ‘dance then’. We know where he may be – in heaven making a joyful noise unto the Lord.

Don and Mary were extremely excellent role modes as parents to their twelve children. They ensured that each child received the attention that was deserved.
Don’s voice and timing was right on in his homilies, which were always, not only of great value, but also succinct as he was well aware of the ability of people to focus on a speaker. We always came away learning another lesson in life.
Don’s influence spread well beyond the Bazely family as the values that he emulated were spread and cherished well beyond the borders of the family, parish, community and city.
Thank you Don for all the inspirations you knowingly and unknowingly gave. Be assured that they continue today to be displayed in your adult children as well as the people who knew and consequently appreciated you.

Dearest Mary and all of our friends in the Bazely family:
I wanted to to extend to all of you on behalf of myself, Anne-Marie, and Nathan as well as on behalf of the Northland Chorus that Don held so dear, our collective condolences on the passing of Don. I owe to Don and to your family a debt I can never repay: the joy of singing that he kindled in me (and countless others) that 30+ years later is still as strong as ever. The 5 years we spent singing together in TAKE IV are particularly special to me, as are the years spent singing in a quartet with my own son – something that never could have happened without Don. How can I ever thank him for what he has given me?
I wrote the following note to the current (and many former) members of Northland Chorus this evening that I would like to share with you:
“To my brothers in the Northland Chorus:
“With sadness, I must inform you that my friend and mentor Donald Bazely, Pioneer District Hall of Famer, Past President of the Pioneer District, BHS member since 1957, and my predecessor as the director of the Northland Chorus in Sault Ste Marie, ON, passed away yesterday morning in the town of Ilderton ON. Don and his wife Mary moved there several years ago to be closer to their 12 children and many grandchildren, many of whom live in Southern Ontario. Don’s love of all things barbershop was surpassed only by his love of family. Don was 84.”
“For decades, Don Bazely was synonymous with barbershopping in Sault Ste Marie. More than any other single individual, Don Bazely is responsible for the success currently enjoyed by the Northland Chorus. He was there from near its beginnings in the early 60’s and remained an active member until moving away in 2006. He shepherded the chapter through its early years, held every possible executive office, sang in countless highly-skilled quartets and he directed the chorus for decades with a style and skill and nuance that can never be equalled. He gave his all to the hobby and to the chorus that he dearly loved and was always there to support and encourage and teach me as I tried to fill his impossibly large shoes.”
Thinking about all of you with love and prayers,
Bob Shami
