It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Harvey Thomas Dale announce his sudden passing on Monday, October 4, 2021, at the age of 78. Beloved husband of Patty (McCredie) Dale for 46 loving years. Survived by his children Sandra (Jason) of Clinton, Joanne (Greg) of Seaforth, and Heather (Shane) of Austin, Texas. Fondly remembered as Grampy to Sullivan, Ray, Vaeda, and Quinn. He will be missed by his sibling Suzanne (Greg) Brandon of Clinton, and sister in laws Margaret Dale of Clinton, Judy Mackey of Ottawa, and Bonnie Brayne of Ottawa. Predeceased by his parents Stewart and Hattie Dale of Clinton, brothers Nelson Dale, Gordon Dale and brother in law Cyril Brayne.
Harvey worked tirelessly until the moment he passed. He cherished being out and about each day, chatting with his customers and helping in any way he could. He was also so humble and caring towards the many tenants he had over the years. In the evenings you could find him on the phone, lending an ear to whomever needed it. He loved music and would thoroughly enjoy sharing his favourite songs with old and new acquaintances.
Harvey and Patty always looked forward to their Friday night outings to Bayfield. Harvey’s hobby was flying his Cessna 182, which he treasured taking to London for weekend breakfast excursions with family and friends. Just this past Saturday, he was out on his last flight. He took joy in the beauty of nature, watching wildlife and gave so much love to all of his many pets over the years.
Harvey touched the lives of so many with his friendly demeanor, kindness, boundless generosity, and charismatic warm smile. He was the true definition of a gentleman and role model. He will now be reunited with his relatives and departed friends. Harvey did an amazing job instilling his work ethic, values, and passions in all of his children. Dad, your incredible work here on earth is done. It is your time to rest. Fly high. The sky is calling you.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Clinton Public Cemetery, on Friday, October 8th. Arrangements entrusted to Haskett Funeral Home, Seaforth (519-527-1390).
An outdoor celebration of life will be held at 33884 Airport Road (next to Goderich Airport Terminal) on Saturday, October 16th, from 1- 5 PM.
If you have stories, photos and/or videos you would like to privately share with the family, please email them to: inmemoryofharveydale@gmail.com. And please visit the official memorial website for Harvey at www.inmemoryofharveydale.com [coming soon].

Our sincere condolences to Patty, Sandra, Joanne, Heather and your families.
Harvey was such a wonderful guy, always taking the time to genuinely enquire about our family and the trivial goings on of our lives. His warm smile, was often accompanied by a story or two and a shared laugh. A “visit” with Harvey always left you feeling more positive about your day- no matter how bad it might have started out. :) He was a hard worker, treasured his family and treated everyone -young or old, rich or poor as people worth listening to and sharing a laugh with. He will be greatly missed and my thoughts go to his family.

My sincere condolences to everyone in Harvey’s family. When I was a teenager growing up in Seaforth, I always admired a hard working individual who always had a smile on his face from ear to ear. Although Harvey didn’t realize it at the time, he had a profound influence on my life. He taught me that nothing in life is a given, that you have to go out and make your own breaks. And the best part is that you can accomplish goals and still maintain an illuminating smile and dignified respect for every individual you meet along the way. I will always remember Harvey and look forward to meeting him once again in the future. The world was and is a much better place to live because of Harvey’s positive contribution. RIP Harvey

Like many others in the condolence messages, we first met Harvey when we rented his duplex on Market Street in 1970. Over the next forty plus years, we had him clean out our Septic systems while living McKillop and Tuckersmith Townships. Always a good conversation happening when Harvey visited. When the girls started and finished at SDHS, the topics changed, but never the conversations. I last saw Harvey at Willys in Clinton in the Spring. My last conversation with him was the same as my first. Unhurried, informative with a few chuckles. Few people today take time to converse. We could take a lesson from Harvey to take a minute, slow down and have a good chat with someone as often as possible. Thanks Harvey for the conversations. You will be missed

We relied on Harvey to take care of our septic pumping needs, and when the septic didn’t need pumping Harvey would recommend not pumping – simple as that. He was an honest man who you could count on. That’s rare these days. RIP Harvey. We’ll miss you. But nobody will miss you as much as your family will miss you. You burned them a path to follow, a road to travel, a life to live. Well done – successful job here on Earth. Now it’s time to rest and watch the fruits of your labour. Enjoy your time to rest.

We met Harvey and Patty many years ago on one of their Friday night outings at the Black Dog and were instantly charmed by Harvey’s warm smile and wonderfull nature. We enjoyed many drinks and conversations with Harvey and Patty on Friday night at The Dog. Harvey took great pride in his plane and we were fortunate enough to join him one Sunday morning for a flight to London for breakfast and a wonderful trip back along the coast.
Harvey was a kind, generous and wonderful person and we will miss him greatly. Our deepest sympathy to Patty and family.

Dear Patty, Sandra, Heather, Joanne and families,
Mike and I are deeply saddened by the passing of Harvey. He was Mike’s “BFF”, mentor, friend, co-pilot, and trusted advisor. Not a day goes by that Harvey isn’t mentioned . Mike loved every minute he spent with Harvey. Mike always returned home feeling that he had learned something about aviation, the County, the septic business, regional farming , local folklore, and life in general. Mike trusted Harvey’s advice, and his loyal friendship. Whoever thought that driving around Huron County in a dump truck could be so much fun? They had a lot of laughs together with their airplanes, and when meeting up for breakfast.
Harvey will be greatly missed. Please extend our condolences to the Dale families.
With Sincere Sympathy

Patty, and Harvey’s beautiful daughters and their families – I am sad to hear of Harvey’s sudden passing. Seaforth and area were lucky to have such a dynamic businessman here for so many years. Always smiling, always “at the trot” as he went from place to place, it just seemed that Harvey was always there when you needed him. Grandpa Paul lived in one of his apartments as did our friend Kim. He was a great landlord and good for our town. I was fortunate to have a plane ride years ago with Harvey at the controls. What a different perspective he must have had of our little town, seeing it from above. I know his family and many, many friends and associates will miss him but their memories and stories will keep Harvey in their hearts. My sincere sympathy to all.
Brian and Janet Keys
To the Dale family….keeping you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Our deepest sympathy to you all. Brian and Janet Keys

Seaforth and are will not be the same without Harvey. I rented an apartment from Harvey back in the mid 70’s on the corner of High and Market St. He was the most caring, helpful and funniest landlord a person could have!! I have some great memories from those days. I will miss his smile and wave in the mornings as we crossed paths at his driveway. May the wonderful memories being shared help to bring some comfort to your families at this difficult time. Hugs and prayers.

We are so very sorry for your loss. We have considered Harvey a friend for forty years. Just a couple of mionths ago I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Harvey. Most people would not consider this a treat driving around in a septic truck, but Harvey and I caught up on a lot of conversation and shared some laughs. I thoroughly enjoyed and will miss his banter dearly.
Again our deepest condolences

Patty and Family, Harvey was an amazing man and friend known far and wide. Before he met Patty early 70’s he drove with us to Fort Lauderdale, first time for all of us. Would you believe as we sat by the pool watching thousands of spring breakers on the strip a young sailor in the back of a convertible stood up and yelled Hello Harvey!!! Harvey always stood out in a crowd. We will miss his warm smile gentle manner and genuine curiosity about each and every person he met. Jo-Anne & Keith

Sad news for many. Anyone who didn’t know Harvey missed out. He shared some Irish music with me from his phone the last time we met. We are shocked and saddened by your loss. We had many flying encounters with Harvey for many years. He was a great pilot. We first met Harvey when we needed a place to park our little J-3 airplane, he was so excited to have another plane on “Dale Field”. Harvey was always inquiring about our flying adventures when we would meet, often at different airports in the area. His ever present smile and wit will be missed.
Carol Fowler Crane
I was so deeply sorry to hear about Harvey’s death. He was a very good friend to me from grade school on.
We would ice skate in the winter on a pond at his family’s farm, and meet our friends for dancing at “Teen Town”, and other places. Such good times!
Later, when I would travel home to visit my parents, Harv and Patty’s house was always my very first stop! He would greet me at the door with that great big smile!
My very heartfelt condolences to Patty and family. We are all fortunate to have known him. He was a lovely man.

Mrs. Dale, Sandra, Jason and family: So sorry to hear that Harvey has passed away. He was an incredible guy, Always a smile and some interesting stories. If I saw his truck parked on the highway at lunch time I always stayed for lunch if possible. He made numerous emergency trips to The Docks when Colin had sewage pump problems. In fact that last time I spoke to him was there and Grandpa was showing his new apprentice Sullivan the ropes. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to have met him. Ron

I was deeply saddened to hear about Harvey. My mom and I own a cottage at Port Albert, and Harvey cleaned out our septic tank for at least 30 years. Two years ago he came to our rescue on a Saturday night – which was above and beyond the call of duty. After, my mom and I had the same conversation we always had after Harvey left. “What a nice guy.” “He is such a gentleman.” “You wouldn’t be able to find a better person than Harvey Dale.” Although I only saw Harvey every two years, his warmth and kindness left an impression on me. Please accept my condolences for your loss.

Our deepest sympathy. Harvey was one of a kind! When I worked at the Lions Park one of my favourite times was the weekly visits by H. T. to clean the septic tanks. We always talked hockey and sports. We are so sad to hear of the passing of Harvey. I had such a nice conversation with him just this past summer and almost every year he came to help us out at our cottage. He always asked about my Dad (Ron – who is currently in Long Term Care)) and reflected on Dad and Jack McIIwain’s hockey glory days. I never got to see my Dad play but always enjoyed Harvey’s recollection.
He was such a wonderful guy and will be truly missed. I can only imagine the magnitude of the loss your family must be feeling and for that I am so sorry.

When I look up in the sky I will picture him soaring high on blessed wings.

I attended elementary school with all the Dales including Harvey at SS #1, . Noon hours in the winter meant lacing up the skates for a game of shinny on the nearby pond on Stewart Dale’s next door farm. Harvey inherited his Dad’s generosity, community spirit, patience and neighbourliness in spades. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him and call him friend.
