Elsie Mary Usherwood, age 85 passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Goderich, Ontario, as a result of complications from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Loving mother of Victoria McDonald (Paul), Bradley Usherwood (Shelley) and Fiona O’Donnell (late husband Jimmy) and step-mother to Matthew and Luke Grellette. Adoring grandmother of Meghan and William McDonald, Sarah and Cameron Usherwood and Seamus and Aiden O’Donnell. Not only did she nurture an amazing family, Elsie and her late husband Les, owned and operated Typsettra, a highly successful and world recognized typsetting and design business. Elsie’s passion for the country and all it had to offer brought her to Brain Manor Farm in 1980 where the family would spend 30 years growing a very successful Equestrian Facility. In 2010, she and John moved to the cottage in Zurich Ontario, where she lived out the rest of her days in a place that was so special to her. Such sad news and wish I could be with you all today. So many memories!!! Elsie/Nana was a force to be reckoned with and a woman to aspire to. Having been her daughter-in-law for so many years brings comfort during this challenging time for all. I will miss her dearly and am honored and privileged she considered me her daughter and kept in touch all these years. I will have a “martooni” at 5pm for you. Thank you for all you brought to my life.
My deepest condolences to you John/Nuzzo. She is always with you, and I can already hear her calling your name and bringing you tea in bed. You both embraced me into your family and for that I am thankful.
To Victoria, Brad and Fiona. My family from a different time, for many years, but my family always, especially in all regards with the passing of your mom. My thoughts are with you all during this time.

Brad, Fiona, Victoria, John, and the rest of the extended family. Please accept the sincerest condolences from Albert Macchiusi and family. I spent 15 years with you guys and it was the best 15 years of my life. Working very close with Les and Elsie on the font business side was an experience I will always cherish. I have many artefacts to keep those memories alive. Elsie sent me a card and “newsletter” every Christmas for many years after Typsettra and always welcomed the ‘news’.
Their legacy and that of Typsettra will be preserved on the Canadian Typography Archives website, now under construction, I’m involved with the build.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
