At Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital on Monday, June 20, 2022 of Strathroy, formerly of Ailsa Craig and Granton at the age of 84. Cherished father of Steve and Lisa Nixon, Mark and Kelly Nixon, and Angie and Rowan Lam. Proud grandpa of Abby, Max, Mackenzie, Xavier, and Tinley. Special friend of Barb Tyler. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Doris Mills, Helen Wyatt, Rhoda and Percy Bramhill, and Ralph and Ruth Nixon. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, close friends, neighbours from communities of Granton, Ailsa Craig, Strathroy and beyond. Predeceased by his parents Burton and Violet (Kew) Nixon, sisters Dorothy Hern, Marion Thomson and twin sister Beryl Heighway, brothers Garfield Nixon and Robert Nixon, brothers-in-law Gerald Hern, Hube Mills, Stan Burnett, Bill Thomson, Doug Heighway and Stan Wyatt and sister-in-law Janey Nixon.
Bruce was employed by United Co-Operatives for many years and loved driving truck for Burnett Farms. Bruce was a giving volunteer, driving patients to their appointments for the VON for over 10 years. He loved to help others whenever he could. He was a proud member of the Ilderton Legion for many years. Bruce could often be found at a local auction sale looking for treasures or at a community supper enjoying a great meal, while also supporting a local organization. He had a talent for fixing small engines and could be found tinkering in his shop. Bruce was an avid gardener, cherishing fresh grown food. He was always so proud of his gardens.
Bruce’s biggest passion was his family. He believed in putting family first. The big Nixon Christmas was a highlight for him every year.
Later in life, he enjoyed shooting pool, watching pro wrestling, the history channel and watching the Blue Jays every night, and of course, tending to his garden. He always enjoyed a beverage or two in the company of others and a meal of fresh caught fish.
A life well lived, a simple life enjoyed with those that meant the most to him. He will be dearly missed by so many. Rest in Peace
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at the Granton Cemetery (corner of Granton Line and Whalen Line, just north of Granton, ON) on Friday, June 24th at 3 PM. A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held in Ailsa Craig at a later date, along with a dedication of a bench in his memory.
Donations to the VON – Middlesex Elgin, Ilderton Legion, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Craigwiel Gardens (Building a new Craigholme) would be appreciated by the family.

Think of you and sending our sincere condolences. Many fond memories of growing up beside you guys. Bruce always had a great sense of humour and it was always put to the test with all the pranks my brothers played on him. May your memories help you heal at this difficult time.

Hi Steve, Mark, Angie and your spouses and little ones… it’s your cousin Dave. Boy it still feels pretty fresh having lost Mom, and having you guys and your Dad out to the farm to remember her and share some laughs and tears. It was such support seeing you all then, and I wish I was there to support you in return. Alas Jules and I will have to honour Uncle Bruce from the Coast.
I sure have a lot of fond memories – mostly of him and you three at Mom’s farm, but lots from the old days in Granton and of course Nixon Christmas. I smile when I remember working up at the Co-op gas bar and your Dad was working over at the elevator – he used to go the the variety store to buy his lunch – an entire loaf of bread and cold cuts! A hard-working man who thought the world of you three and your families – our loving thoughts to all of you. Dave & Jules
