What a loss for everyone who knew him. I remember John as such a kind, generous, and loving friend, and neighbour. He gave his time willingly to the church, The Knights of Columbus and the Epilepsy Foundation. Always with a smile and friendly greeting and oh, how he loved a party. And such a dapper man in his bowtie.
Dear John, may you rest easy and in peace. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

Colleen Eckert
My deepest sympathies to the Eckert family. John was such a kind man. In the 1990s I was teaching grades 1 and 2 in Gjoa Haven, Nunavut (a fly-in, Inuit community in the Canadian Arctic archipelago).
John very kindly invited me to visit the farm. He spent a summer afternoon with me allowing me to photograph every aspect of the dairy process. I used about 40 photographs and John’s knowledge to put together a teaching unit on milk production that I used for years in the arctic.
In the high arctic, milk arrives on a plane and goes into the store. I used this teaching unit for many years.
I recently retired after 30 years working in NWT/NU and this special teaching unit has been passed on to another northern educator so John’s afternoon of kindness continues to benefit northern educators and students.
A life well lived in kindness – rest in peace John.

I have grand memories of growing up as a younger cousin of John’s! He was patient and fun-loving and always keen to educate us younger ones on the finer details of milking – like how many times we should pull the lever to deliver just enough feed for her. He and Bob made a dandy team. Now reunited in Heaven they will continue to guide!
Condolences to all who had the joy of being in John’s circle ♥️
