On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, Kelly McNichol passed away surrounded by loved ones at Seaforth Community Hospital at the age of 64.
True to fashion, she went out with great nails, burgundy hair and was dressed to impress.
Kelly is survived by her husband of 30 years, Gary McNichol, her children and step children, numerous grandchildren, dog grandchildren, sisters, her MANY friends and her beloved dachshund, Mackie.
Kelly was a fighter, both through life’s ups and downs, but also around her dining room table if someone got out of line. Paradoxically opinionated and impressionable – a lover of Star Wars and CCR, head turning jewelry, long haul trucking, an elaborate meal or a slice of deluxe pizza – Kelly loved the extremes of life, and all in between. She had a passion for nature’s cruelest mistake; the dachshund- raising money and awareness for their long bodies and big hearts. There was always a chorus of barks and wags close to her.
Kelly’s door was always open and often saw the steady traffic of neighbours and friends. Her table served more food than needed as she facilitated political debates covering all the hot button topics, often over a game of loonie crib or a cold beer.
Kelly can still be reached by ouija board, but asks that you keep your curse requests to a minimum.
Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside will be held at Maitlandbank Cemetery at a later date.
A come and go celebration of Kelly’s life will be held at the Seaforth Legion, 123 Main Street South, Seaforth on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 2 – 5 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kelly’s memory to Long Dog Rescue (E-Transfers to longdogrescue12@gmail.com (please fill out the form to the right of Kelly’s obituary)) would be appreciated by the family.

We only met briefly but shared love of the dachshund breed. We joked back and forth but it was always such fun. Glad to have known Kelly and certain that many barks and wagging tails awaited her at the rainbow Bridge. Hugs to Gary and the family. You have lost one of the best humans.

Kelly was the keeper of the gate at Radford’s pit for us teenagers. She provided a space for us to be ourselves. And her kids are a pair you can count among friends, as genuine and authentically themselves, and that is a rare gem in this world. May Kelly rest anywhere she wishes, or rattle some chains and sneak up on you in spirit 😉
