Our thoughts are with you at this time. Your Mum was such a gifted lady and spent many hours patiently teaching many Hensall and area girls “tap”. We have such special memories of the effort and time she made to learn Highland Dancing so she could teach our Gail.

Sincere condolences to Lyla’s family on her passing. She was always such a sweet and gentle lady and I enjoyed my visits with her when I stopped by to see my mother-in-law Dorothy Hern as they worked together at the Exeter Times Advocate. They both must have made a great impression on me as I still work for a newspaper today….May she rest in peace.

To all of Lyla’s family … Lyla was an icon for me. I met her at the Times Advocate in the late 70’s, shortly before Russell passed. Her and Joyce were great teachers in the printing side of the newspaper and fabulous co-workers. Lyla will be great missed. RIP honey.

So sorry to hear of Lila’s passing. She was really a lovely lady & treated me so well when I lived in Exeter. She painted a beautiful plate for me which I still have in my china cabinet.. I cannot make it to the funeral home due another committment but please accept my deepest sympathy.

To all Lyla’s family: I have many happy memories of Lyla, beginning when I began at the Exeter Times Advocate in1981. I knew nothing about putting a newspaper page together and Lyla stepped over to my light table (pre computers) and showed me what to do. She was always ready to share a laugh – or her extraordinary potato salad when inviting guests to lunch. She was an extraordinary lady of many talents. I’m proud I could call her “friend”. Our thoughts go out to Joyce and family. I have so many fond memories of Aunt Lyla and Uncle Russ. She had a wonderful life and was so blessed in many ways throughout her life. I have one of her hand painted plates that she gave me and I will treasure this plate even more now. My Mom and Aunt Lyle were great friends and did many things together and I know Mom will be thinking of all the great times they shared together.

Dear Broderick and Ford Families,
It is with wonderful memories that I offer my deepest condolences to all of you. She loved each and every one of you dearly.
I will forever remember enjoying Lyla’s company while lunching at her home in Exeter. All the memories she shared of teaching tap along with her daughter Joyce. She expressed love and admiration for all her family living and those who had passed on.
Lyla was a kind and caring woman and mentor. Together with her daughter Joyce, they wrote an article to the paper recognizing my dedication and involvement regarding women’s mental health issues. There will always be a place in my heart for Lyla. Jullie Godwin

To the Broderick and Ford Famillies:
Lyla was such a sweetheart, she loved to linedance until her knees gave out. It will be the little things that you will remember, the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter. And although it may seem hard right now, it will be the memories of these little things that help push away the pain and bring the smiles back again. She will be missed.
