Passed away suddenly of complications after surgery at LHSC – Victoria Hospital, London on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the age of 78. Greatly missed by her furry friends Patrick and Mark. Much loved daughter of the late Charlie and Florence (Sutcliffe) Hodgert. Dear sister of Brian Hodgert and family. Fondly remembered by the extended Hodgert, Harvey and Johnson/Nanson families and her many friends in Stratford and Toronto.
Karel worked in the telephone industry as a service representative in Toronto for many years. When moving back to Stratford she was an active member of the Rotary Club and had a love for golf and animals.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Karel’s life will be held at Ironwood Golf Club, 70969 Morrison Line, EXETER on Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 2 – 4 PM, with words from the family starting at 3 PM.

I had the privilege of meeting Karel when she joined our Rotary club of Stratford in 2015. She was active on many committees until her health didn’t allow her to do so. One of the first tasks we did together was picking up garbage with her on highway 7/8. She was always up for a challenge and a good laugh Our club’s thoughts go out to the extended family at this very difficult time. Peter

As first cousins of Karel on her mother Florence’s side, we remember so many happy occasions with Karel. We were very close as children, spending Christmases and many summer holidays together. As children, my sister and I were jealous of Karel’s acrobatic ability and tried to emulate her backbends and flips. As adults, Karel was part of all our special events. We remember Karel’s laugh, her love of babies and children, her love of the swimming pool, her beautiful eyes, her joy in the Stratford swans and the riverside park.
The last few years of constant pain aged her and changed her. We will miss her and hope that now she rests in pain free peace. The Nanson/Johnson clan.

Thinking of Karel’s family at this time. Karel was a very caring and thoughtful lady. We will miss giving Karel rides with One Care and Stratford City Cab.

My sincere condolences to all of Karel’s family.
I met Karel when my sister Dianne and her became friends close to 60 years ago and from then on she was like family. I am so glad that we had a FaceTime with her on her Birthday, she wasn’t expecting it and she kept saying oh no my hair as we passed the phone around having a little chat and some laughs. Karel will certainly be missed but her suffering is over.
My Sincere Condolences to all of her family during this sad time
