Jane passed away peacefully at University Hospital, London, sharing memories with her family, on Sunday, March 3, 2024 of Exeter in her 74th year. Loving wife of Rick Hundey for 50 years. Devoted mother of Eric (Julie) Hundey, Tim (Yvonne) Hundey, Beth Hundey (Seneca Sanford). Proud grandmother of Lucas, Alana, and Grace; Abigail, Isabelle, and Avery; and Percy. Cherished daughter of Harold and Bertha Sweetman. Sister of Jim Sweetman and sister-in-law to Ian (Linda) Hundey, and Pam (Mark) Morrill. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents-in-law Vera and Fred Hundey and Stuart Johnston.
Jane loved vacations with Rick and her family, playing games with her grandchildren, and her 6 ukuleles. Thank you to the staff at St. Joseph’s, University, and South Huron Hospitals for their care and compassion towards Jane.
A come-and-go celebration of Jane’s life will be held at the Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Thursday, March 7 from 2-4 PM. Memories will be shared by family at 3 PM. Cremation has taken place.

I’m so very sorry for the loss of such a wonderful woman. I have so many fond memories of game nights at the Hundey house, I can still hear her laugh.
We’re thinking of you all, Jane will be so missed.
Bethany Wagler (& Andrew Mantle)
Dear Hundey Family ,
We are so sorry to learn of Jane’s passing.
Jane ( I think if her as Mrs. Hundey/ Beth’s Mum) was one of the very first people I ever met when we moved to Exeter. She was so warm, friendly and helpful as I signed out so many books. She learned my library card by heart and would always recommend new books for me. I remember talking about the Silver Birch books with her, which stretched me to read books I might not have picked for myself.
I also have so many memories of her from times when I spent time with Beth at her house. She was always a calm and safe presence. She asked good questions and was so supportive, and also quick to laugh (especially at silly things Rick would say).
My thoughts are with you all as you remember Jane.
Janis bisback
Dear Hundey Family. Sending condolences. Jane was a wonderful staff at the library.

Rick and family,
Marilyn and I were saddened by the news of Jane’s passing and are deeply sorry for your loss. If it wasn’t already known well, the wonderful collection of photographs you’ve shared tell a story of a rich life made full through service to community, strong family connection and abiding love. One shared memory we have of Jane from earlier times spent together is that she enjoyed a laugh and her laugh was a good fulsome burst – as it should be; non of this chuckling to yourself stuff! We hope the love and deep connectedness within your family will help sustain you all during this very difficult time, and that the gift of happy memories and laughter will find its way back to you all in due course.

Jennifer Baker (& David Currie)
Dear Hundeys,
We are so sorry for your deep loss.
I have so many wonderful memories of Jane, and I have thought often and fondly of how deeply her love of books influenced me in my many summers of reading through the Silver Birch titles with Beth, her fun and generous hosting of our games and movie nights, her forbearing tolerance of that one birthday party of Beth’s where, in the hubris of youth, I thought it would be funny to inhale an entire Jello egg, and it didn’t go very well. She introduced me to microfiche and the town records during my library volunteer hours, and made the library one of my favourite places in Exeter. I will always remember Jane as an intelligent, funny, warm, creative, wise person and I am heartbroken for your loss.
Sarah Morrill
Aunt Jane had the best laugh, I can hear it when I think of card games and other shenanigans us cousins would get up to for the adults.
She was so much fun and so loving. I’m so sorry and hugs to all of you.
Also Jeff sends hugs too, he didn’t know what to write.
We love you!
Debbie Coates
When I picture Jane, I see her surrounded by a group of young children mesmerized by her reading. Jane brought stories to life and instilled a love of reading in her young listeners! Visits to the town library were always a highlight for my grade one students. Later, I had the privilege of having Jane as an adult volunteer in my classroom. The students loved reading with her! With eyes that sparkled, a warm smile and an enthusiasm for reading, Jane encouraged even the reluctant reader to do their very best. The community of Exeter is a better place having had Jane Hundey in it.
My thoughts and prayers are with her family. ❤️
Allan & Patty Case
Our sincere condolences. Cherish the many wonderful memories. Jane was such a wonderful person and will be missed.

However, even though we haven’t seen you in many years due to the distance, you have a special place in our hearts. Jane was a wonderful friend, loyal and true. My deepest condolences. I have a special place in my heart for our dear cousin, Jane, with lovely memories of childhood visits with Jane and Jim. Over the years, it was a pleasure to meet Rick and attend their wedding. Most recently I enjoyed get-togethers with Jane and family when Uncle Harold turned 90 and then the next year when Aunt Bertha turned 90. I said hello to Jane on the phone last summer while visiting Harold and Bertha. Harold told me that she phoned every day at 3:00 p.m. Jane will be greatly missed by so many.
Hugs to all of you.

Rick, Eric and Julie, Tim and Yvonne and Beth and Seneca,
I am so happy Jane met the love of her life, in the U of Windsor library if I recall correctly! Rick, what a wonderful journey of marriage the two of you created and enjoyed . I know that Jane loved her children and grandchildren and gave her love freely to each of them. I marvelled how no matter where Jane and her family lived she followed her passions in so many circles, was involved in her community and grew strong friendships. I am so lucky to have met Jane all those years ago in university and enjoyed the gift of a wonderful friendship with such a remarkable woman.
May we all remember her smiles, laughter, giggles and warm heart when we miss her most.
Love and hugs, Beth Campeau

To Jane’s family: I am so sorry to hear of Jane’s passing. Please accept my condolences. Your mom was my cousin as her grandma Balkwill was my aunt Lena. Every summer we’d have a few days together on the farm. I loved spending time with your mom as she was always beaming and giggling as we ventured into the woods. We built make shift forts with branches, brush and leaves. All the while we’d sing as loud as possible to scare off any animals or hunters that might come by. I loved Jane for her spirit of adventure and life! She left a deep love for her in my heart albeit in adulthood we rarely saw each other. I am sure many others that knew her feel the same. My prayers are with you.

Many sympathies to the Hundey family.
I first met Jane at the Exeter library, where my kids looked forward to her story time.
Such a welcome soul to the young folk.
Then many years later I discovered she was a vary talented ukulele player. She even let me borrow her song book to try and learn myself….but I wasn’t a quick study. But maybe again someday soon I’ll pick up that ukulele again.
A woman of many talents. She will be missed.
