Brenda and family,
It was heartbreaking to hear of Jean’s passing while I was on vacation. I would loved to have been at her funeral as closure to our many years of friendship which was special to both of us. We taught at Usbourne School together for many years. Jean and I were together to teach the primary choir and grew closer through this special time! Reg, Jean, Dave and I had such fun times together also. It has been a privilege to have a caring, generous, and fun loving friend like Jean over these many years. It has left a hole in my heart.

So sorry to hear, we will always have fond memories of her.

Dear Brenda, Ivan and Family,
I am so sorry to learn that Jean is gone. She was a wonderful teacher, neighbor and friend, and responsible for the musical education of hundreds of Usborne Central School children. She and Reg were good friends to my parents, and so active and giving to their community. Right up to her last years, she was still playing the piano at the Villa, giving joy to many. My heart goes out to you at the loss of this fine lady.

I am fortunate to have so many fond summer memories of Jean when I was a young innocent boy from the big city able to come and spend time with cousin Ray on the farm. Also, we had so many fun family get togethers with ‘ us cousins’, as her sister Marg used to say.
Love to all Roy and Lois Merkley

Brenda and Ivan, and all of Jean’s family,
We have wonderful memories of times with Jean, as a close neighbour, and cousin. One memory of Jean that we will never forget, happened about 12 or so years ago. It was a cold Labour Day Saturday, and we had gone to see the Mitchell Fair Parade. It was about halfway through, when it started to rain. We stood at the entrance to the fair grounds to watch the floats as they came in. On one of the last floats, Jean was playing the keyboard, and the rain was pouring down. She kept playing that keyboard, with a big smile, until the tractor had parked her float. She never quit, and going on 97 years, she never quit.
Debbie Stewart
So very sorry for your loss , Brenda , Ivan and families. Thoughts and prayers are with you all in this difficult time .

To Brenda and Ivan, Jack and Mary, and Ray and Alice and your families. Our deepest condolences on the passing of Jean, a mother, a sister, a grandmother, great- grandmother and friend of many.
I was one of her first students in her long teaching career. It was Grade 2 in the “old” Exeter Public School with the big tall bell tower. Some wondered if there would be a problem teaching her young first cousin. All went well including for the mouse that disappeared into some cranny after she deputised me and another one day to get it out of her classroom.
In later years Jean was always someone to visit when we were in Exeter – if we could find her at home. One needed only to read the Exeter paper to know she was a busy lady. We shared an interest in family history and she shared much information and many photographs of our common ancestors. Jean will be sorely missed!
