Following a courageous four-year battle with cancer, Lois died peacefully at home in Collingwood surrounded by the love of her family on Monday March 25, 2024, at the age of 70.
Born in Exeter, Ontario to parents Lorne and Marion (Forbes) Porter. Lois was the proud and loving mother of Corey Vanular and Caley Vanular and will be lovingly remembered by Greg Vanular. She will be deeply missed by her sister Darlene Porter.
Lois pursued higher education from the University of Windsor, Western University, Fanshawe College and St. Clair College; she was a Dental Hygienist, Interior Designer and Home Economist. Lois also had completed Level 10 from the Conservatory of Music as a Pianist. Her family and friends admired her incredible creativity, fun-loving spirit and were the grateful recipients of her love to host dinners and celebrations.
Her family was the center of her life, she treasured the time she was able to spend with those she loved travelling, skiing and dancing to live music. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends but will never be forgotten.
The family wishes to extend heart thanks to the wonderful staff from St. Elizabeth’s for their kindness, care, and support over the last several months.
As per her wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Thursday, April 18th from 1 – 4 PM. Private family interment Exeter Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Saint Elizabeth Foundation or South Huron Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Darlene, my condolences on the loss of your sister. It’s been over 30 years since I last saw Lois at a SHDHS reunion. I still remember her smile and laughter that hadn’t changed since we were in class some 20 years earlier….she’s now playing her piano with the angels..

Dear Darlene, sincere condolences on the loss of your sister. I was a classmate of Lois all through elementary school and I remember participating in a 4H club at your house back in 1966. I moved to Seaforth from Exeter in 1967 so lost touch with all of my Exeter classmates. I remember Lois as a bright, kind and quiet person. It was lovely to read of her wonderful accomplishments and her love of life. May you find comfort in your memories and the deep bond you shared as sisters. May she rest in peace.

Our deepest condolences to the Vanular family and to her loving sister, Darlene. Lois was the flower girl at our wedding nearly 60 years ago. Art and I have fond memories of a visit Lois and Darlene had with us in 1967 when we took them to Expo ´67 in Montréal. Lois was always kind, upbeat, and a positive thinker even during her health challenges. We have lost a beautiful person.

I am so sorry to hear about Lois. We went to highschool together in Exeter and she was involved in many extracurricular activities due to her talents. She never missed a school dance. I got to know her better when Darlene became part of our family. My funniest memory is on Darlene’s wedding day our little ring better had dropped the wedding ring just as we were leaving for the church. So hear we are Lois and all the bridesmaids crawling through the grass in our dresses trying to find it. But we did. My sincere condolences to her children, family and Darlene who all loved her so much. May she rest in peace.

Darlene ,
I am heart-broken to read of Lois’ passing and her health struggles. I am so very sorry for your great loss.
My last conversation with Lois was at our 20 year class reunion back in 1992. I can still see her… ‘hand on hip’ or arms crossed with that pensive look on her face and the often frank results of that thinking. We met Greg at that reunion… my condolences to Corey and Caley, as well. That day, Lois spoke of the biggest challenge of working mothers …just getting kiddos in their car seats and stuffing muffins in their mouths. :) Lois was working on a town house project in NOTL at the time, vowing to support Dental Assistants in their quest for self-regulation/fair pay. Kindly thinking of others. We had worked in the same dental practice, so had friends and colleagues in common.
From that Grade 9 , quick lunch time trip home with Lois and meeting her Mom, (our Dads had worked together at Centralia), I felt comfortable with Lois…her constructive comments on my sewing projects, for instance. :) I was a tad envious of her long-time history with Gwen Mills and Susan (Tressie) Tuckey …friends since public school and their 4H sewing clubs. I remember Lois the Cheer Leader, the Teen Town and school dances we attended …Lois working at the ‘Cheryl Ann’ . She sure loved life. <3
