Passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital, with her family by her side on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at the age of 80. Loving wife of Ben van den Akker for 55 years. Cherished mother of Amy van den Akker and Bill Springer, and Brent van den Akker and Jen Loft. Adored grandma of Logan, Avery, and Hunter. Dear sister and sister-in-law of June Williamson and Phil Neilsen, Diane Williamson, and Tony and Nancy van den Akker. Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Amanda and Matt Coughlin, Michael and Nicole Boneschansker, Melissa Fussell, Michele and Dave Fisher, and Holly Sache, also by her many great–nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother Keith Williamson, parents Jim and Erma (Gray) Williamson, and parents-in-law Bessel Sr. and Aartje “Anna” (de Groot) van den Akker.
Ben and Arlene met shortly after high school and married in 1969. Living together in London, Forest, Oil Springs and finally settling in Seaforth/Egmondville. Arlene graduated Stratford Teachers College in 1963 and started teaching in 1964. She later earned her Bachelors of Arts in 1985 at University of Western Ontario. Arlene taught in Kitchener, Oxford County, and later Seaforth and enjoyed each moment spent with the students. She greatly enjoyed Music and was a member of the Harmony Highlights. Arlene also had a love for photography, birds, going for a walk with friends but most importantly family. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home 87 Goderich Street North, Seaforth on Friday, July 5th from 6 – 8 PM.
Arlene’s Funeral Service will be held at Community of Christ Church 226 Forman Ave, Stratford on Saturday, July 6th at 11 AM with visitation starting at 10 AM. Interment at Brussels Cemetery.
Donations to Alzheimer’s Society – Huron Perth, Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Community of Christ Church in Arlene’s memory would be appreciated by the family.

We are truly sorry for the loss of a loving wife, mother and grand mother.
Her and I had many conversations at the hockey games. She was such a lovely lady. It always warmed my heart went Hunter after every game gave his gramma a hug. They were true loyal fans of The Navy Vets. Hold all your wonderful memories close to your heart to get you thru the difficult days ahead.
