Todd passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at the age of 61. Devoted husband of Ann (Loft) Charlton. Proud father of Scott, and Cori.
Todd was a fixture and a true character in the community. Todd was born a farmer and died doing what he loved…farming. To Todd, there was no other way of life, it brought him immense joy, pride and sometimes a few choice words.
A private interment has taken place at Telfer Cemetery.
Donations to the Ailsa Craig Food Bank or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Todd was larger than life and made many contributions to the organizations he was involved in and to his community. His love for family was unbounded. I enjoyed our visits and that he was always ready to lend a hand if needed. He will certainly be missed. My condolences to you all.

Dear Charltons,
I’m so sorry to read this news. This must be so hard.
Todd, what a figurehead in the Ilderton hockey community and beyond it. It’s wild because memories of funny, lighthearted and warm moments being coached by Todd alongside Cori cross my mind about once a year despite my being so far away from the community now. I remember his sense of humour and his sense of investment in the team, his acceptance of where each individual player was at skill-wise and his sincere words of encouragement, anointing us all with our first nicknames (that for many of us stuck!) and stoking what was, for many of us, our first experience of team spirit!
I know this was just a slice of Todd’s life and it was a long time ago, but I like to think we’re a sum of the imprint we left on others’ lives. I’m grateful for this imprint — one of my first-ever hockey coaches who knew how to make a groups of 11 year-olds laugh and see the best in each other, and who know how to build community.
Thank you, Todd, and to your family unit (Ann, Cori, and Scott) for making that possible. I’m sending you my most sincere condolences for this terrible loss.

Our deepest sympathy to Ann and family, Todd was much to young.

My deepest condolences to all of the family and friends of Todd. He will be fondly and dearly missed by myself and all of my co workers who’s lives he greatly impacted. Knowing Todd for the last 9 years, getting to talk tractors, farming and life; are great memories I truly cherish. The last conversation I had with him in April was a long and great one and I’m so grateful for that. One of the most commendable traits that Todd had was an incredible ability to ensure that conversations were never rushed. He always took conversations so seriously in the regard of time, never rushing through or around things. His quirky sense of humor, amazing way of thinking outside the box and smile will never be forgotten. Thinking of all of his loved ones.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Todd’s passing. Like so many others, remember his laughter, smile, and readiness to help others. Todd worked for Gord and I in the tire business but farming was his love. Todd was a hard worker but he could play just as hard…always with a smile!
Cherish the memories. Thinking of you at this difficult time.

We were shocked by the news of Todd’s passing. Please know you are in our thoughts. When I think of Todd I am smiling as he always had that effect on everyone. On behalf of my four sons Rob, Michael, Patrick & Mark we were very saddened to learn of Todd’s
sudden passing…Todd was a real asset to the community. What we remember most about him was
his passion for hockey, playing and coaching. Rob worked with him while he was in high school at
Prince Fuels and they played on the same team for the Flyers. Michael remembers him as a great guy
always a positive force. Todd was the Midget coach for Patrick & Mark and they both say he was the
best coach they ever had. I agree being very involved in my boys’ minor hockey. He had such a great way of inspiring the team. He was a good technician but he also made coaching a lot of fun.
To Todd’s family and close friends your memories will last forever.
I thank Todd for who he was.

Charlton Family – I knew Les and Diane and knew Todd indirectly, but I know Todd from my son being in 4-H. Todd was always very involved in 4-H, the beef show Friday night at the Ilderton fair, the mutton bust and the calf scrabble – providing his calves for the scramble. Ilderton fair will miss having Todd to help. The community have lost a wonderful volunteer!!!

Ann, Scott and Cori,
Darcy and I are so very sorry to hear about Todd’s passing.
We met Todd in 2017 when we started working on our renovation down the road and from day one it was very obvious he was a great guy with a great character. He was always so very helpful and neighbourly and we really appreciated that being new to the community. He was great to our children who adored him and were so very impressed by all of his awesome huge farming equipment. He insisted that our son Maddox attended the annual Muttin Bustin event at the Ilderton fair, which I’d never heard of, and to this day it is one of my favourite memories of my son at that age thanks to Todd. Many times I would drop by his shop, he would pull out two of the oldest lawn chairs I’d ever seen, and we would drink beer and laugh, his unforgettable laugh.
After Darcy, the family and myself moved to West Elgin, Todd and I stayed in touch over the phone and I’m very happy that he came down for a visit during the construction of our new home. Only a month or so ago Todd and I spoke on the phone and I was bugging him for some sweet corn. Apparently raccoons had gotten to it and it would be another couple weeks before more was ready to go. My son Maddox was excited for us to go out and visit Todd as it had been a while since we’d last connected. Sadly, before that happened, I received the news of his passing.
Darcy, our children and myself would like to thank Todd and Ann for being so welcoming to us and such great neighbours during our time on his road (I never paid the road tax that he insisted I should pay him). I will miss Todd and think about him often.
With Love,
The Monteith Family

I got to know Todd better when we played hockey together on the Poplar Hill Flyers. We were very happy to have him on our side, especially if someone from the other team came across the centre line with their head down. Todd had a little smirk. Since it was supposed to be no body contact hockey, the smirk continued either to the penalty box or as he was escorted off the ice. Todd always said that Les told him if someone comes across centre ice with their head down -hit him
We always looked forward to hearing his stories.

Dear Ann, Scott and Cori,
Through tears and laughter, we are so, so sorry for your loss. Still hard to believe. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to each one of you. There was no one else like Todd. Character is such an apt word. But along with the jokes, the pranks, the infectious laughter, and mishap after mishap, was a really good guy! One who worked hard for his family, his farm, and his surrounding community of Denfield and Ilderton. Most importantly, Todd, you and Ann raised two wonderful young adults. We, along with this community, so feel your loss, because it is our great loss too – and you will long be remembered. And I can just hear you, “of course you’ll remember me, you live on a road with my name on it” followed with that memorable laugh. You were a great neighbour, fun to work with, a real joy to be around, and a dear friend. Thanks for the honour and the memories. With respect, admiration and deepest sympathy,

I was so very sorry to hear of Todd’s passing. I have known him all of my life, and I have many fond memories of him affectionately calling me “Little Mother” with a big smile when I was a meddling little sister, full of questions about what he and Brad and my brothers were up to that day or week. So many entertaining stores to think back on. He had a warm, friendly voice and smile that I will never forget.
I feel so lucky to have seen him last weekend while home, after so many years. We had a good catch up and a lot of laughs.
He was a character and beloved part of our family, our neighbourhood, and the community. He will be missed by so many and will leave a legacy of contribution to the people in our area,
Sending lots of love from Calgary to you Ann, Scott, Cori, Brad, Carrie and your boys. I am so sorry for your loss. I am always back home in heart.
Thank you, Cousin, for the happy memories of you. Rest peacefully up there. We love you.

I first met Todd on a farm related bus trip which we had a pile of fun on. Then afterwards we continued to do bushiness together and always a great guy to deal with. We always joked around me being a farmer from the north and Todd farming in the land of milk and honey in the south. He will definitely be missed!

If Todd had written a book about his many adventures and you didn’t know him, you would think it was a work of fiction. But if you are lucky enough to have known him, you would just smile, laugh, and say, “Yes, I believe it!”
