Peacefully, at LHSC University Hospital, on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the age of 86, Robert “Bob” Schubert Harvey slipped into a new life. Bob lived at the Fox-Hollow Retirement Home, having spent most of his life in Ilderton. Bob was the beloved husband of the late Stephanie (Medd) and the loving father of Brent and Kathy Harvey, Stephen and Janice Harvey, Blair and Colleen Harvey, all of Ilderton and Craig Harvey of Sarnia. Poppy was the cherished grandfather of Shannon and Joe, and Lauren and Garrett; Beth and Nick, and Sean and Natalie; Tianna and Bill, and Logan and Haley; Jack and Carlie, and Leah. He was the admired Great-Poppy of Kate, James, Andie, Olivia, Hunter, Aubrey, Theo, Bennett, Lincoln, Cameron and Brooks. He was the dear brother-in-law of Marie Medd and is also survived by treasured nieces and nephews. Bob and Stephanie are reunited in heaven with their beloved grandson Neil Harvey, Bob’s parents Howard and Elsie Harvey, his in-laws Stephen and Eva Medd, his sister Elizabeth and her husband Hugh Riddell, and his brother-in-law Don Medd.
Bob’s life was blessed as an educator and community leader, making our schools better places. Rick Hanson Public School, Byron Southwood Public School and Masonville Public School were all his pride and joy, and his staffs were like family. His retirement life was focused on volunteer work with the OHA, the Western Junior B Hockey League, where the runner up trophy is the Bob Harvey Trophy, the Middlesex County Board of Education as Vice-Chair, the TVDSB Education Foundation where an annual workplace award is granted in his name, and the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority, where he represented the citizens of Middlesex Centre. Bob was a member of the Ilderton and District Lions Club, serving for 56 years in various club positions, where he proudly, with his best friend Jack Hodgins, initiated the Ilderton Minor Hockey Association in the early 60’s. Bob was awarded the prestigious Melvin Jones Award by Lions International for his selfless dedication to his community. Bob contributed willingly and asked for nothing in return. Bob spent his last morning with his family, sharing stories, smiling and laughing, demonstrating the love that they had for him and he for them. Bob’s legacy is one of love for his family, sharing joy, growing happiness, hard work and shaping a better world for others.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Tuesday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 PM.
Bob’s funeral service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 12656 Thirteen Mile Road, Denfield on Wednesday, October 23rd at 11 AM. Cremation to follow with interment St. George’s Anglican Cemetery.
Please don’t cry for his loss; instead, in memory and honour of Bob’s life, give of yourself to your local community and make a positive impact for others as he so notably did.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at UH and Parkwood for the loving care Bob received.
Donations can be made to Diabetes Canada, the Heart and Stroke Association or Ilderton and District Lions Club.

I had the pleasure of working with Bob when he was principal of Rick Hansen School. Bob cared about each and every student and he championed the rights of children with special needs. He was such a gentleman and so welcoming. We were able to reconnect years later as we sat on the Special Education Advisory Committee of TVDSB together. His input was invaluable and we enjoyed reminiscing about our stories and experiences. My condolences to his family. Your dad/grandpa/great grandpa was truly a special individual and his impact here will continue.

Please accept my condolences for Bob. He was the best principal that I ever worked for. He was a kind and wonderful person always pitching for the underdog whether it be adults or children. His mentorship allowed me to stay in the teaching profession for 36 years. I always enjoyed catching up at the Rick Hansen staff Christmas parties to laugh about the old times. He will be missed but remembered always.

Bob Harvey was a great principal and a true gentleman. Bob cared deeply about the well being of each and every student and teacher. I remember Bob walking, as a friend, with students at recess. Bob cared about each student’s academic well being, Bob cared sincerely for the professional and personal well being of everyone on his staff. Bob was a great friend and mentor. All at Rick Hansen grew with Bob’s nurturing.
