William (Bill) Laird Mickle of Exeter and formerly of Hensall, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Stratford General Hospital in his 76th year. Husband and dear friend of Frances (Taylor) Mickle. Father and father-in-law of Pam and David O’Brien of Blenheim, Judith and Randy Pollock of Saint John, NB, and John Mickle of London. Grandfather of Michael, Steven, Daniel, Andrew and David. Son of the late Laird and Dorothy Mickle of Hensall. Missed by sisters and brothers Betty MacMillan of Waterloo, Charles Mickle of Hamilton, Bob and Lynne Mickle of Ayr, and Ann and Bud Collins of Waterloo, sisters-in-law Marg Robertson of Cambridge and Isabel McMullen of North Bay, brother-in-law Bill Walker of London and several nephews and nieces. Bill was active and enjoyed being President of the Hensall Kinsmen Club, Deputy Governor, Governor and National Director of the Kinsmen Association. Served as Director of the Ontario Egg Producers Marketing Board and the Canadian Egg Marketing Association. Bill was also the Vice-President of the Canadian Egg Producers Council. Served as Deputy Chief with the Hensall Fire Department for fifteen years. Bill was Councillor for the Town of Exeter for two years and for fifteen years served as the Reeve of Exeter and Councillor on Huron County Council. During that time he was Chair of the Ontario Small Urban Municipalities and President of the Association of Municipalities for Ontario. Bill enjoyed choir singing, curling, lawn bowling, golfing, fishing and a good story. He loved a good joke. He thanks his family and his many friends for his wonderful life. Friends may call at the Hopper Hockey Funeral Home, 370 William Street, 1 west of Main, Exeter on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at Exeter United Church, 42 James Street, Exeter on Tuesday, February 21st at 11 AM with Rev. Paul Ross officiating. Cremation has taken place with interment at Exeter Cemetery to follow. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Stratford General Hospital Foundation or the Exeter United Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated by the family.
