With greatest sympathy we send this message to you Ann and Dan, for the loss of a child is great. Although we have never met Cody, he is the son of a dear family member and therefore has touched our hearts. As we look upon his picture, we can see what a handsome, beautiful young man he is and was. We are sending a poem we found years ago which has been very comforting to us in time of loss. Its author is unknown.
There is No Death
From the book “Coming home” by Barb Hodgson
I’m standing upon the seashore; a ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and great strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and the sky come together to mingle with each other. Then, someone at my side says, “There she is gone!”
Gone where? Gone from my sight, that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living weight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in ME, not in HER, and just at the moment that someone at my side says: “There she is gone”, there are other eyes watching her coming and other voices taking up glad shout: “Here she is!”
And that is death.
God bless,
Uncle John and Aunt Bernie
