It is with heavy hearts and loving memories that we announce that Ted Jones passed away peacefully at South Huron Hospital, Exeter on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Ted was the beloved husband of Donna (Hayter) Jones for over 68 years. Loving father of Randy and Susann Jones of Exeter. Ted will be missed by his sister-in-law Linda O’Rourke (Willie) of Dashwood and their family. Predeceased by his mother and father Gladys and Cecil Jones, his mother and father-in-law Ella Rae and Newton Hayter, and sister Jean McInroy.
Ted lived in and around Exeter for most of his life. He met and married his soul mate and love of his life, Donna. He never missed an opportunity to state what a wonderful wife she was over their 68 years of marriage. He loved her dearly. Ted and Donna had one child, Randy, who returned from New York with his wife Susann to help care for his aging parents. Ted enjoyed the time he spent with Randy on their many trips to London for dialysis. He truly appreciated his care and attention. Ted worked for the ABCA for 26 years. He wore a multitude of hats over his career and stayed on with the Conservation Foundation and Board for 29 years. He was a proud and dedicated member of the Exeter Lions Club for 23 years. He was a very active community volunteer, a master wood carver, and a great supporter and promoter of the Conservation Dinner. Ted loved nature, and was a life-long conservationist. He was instrumental in the development of McNaughton Park. The Exeter Town Council recognized Ted’s contribution to the community by selecting him Citizen of the Year. Ted had a great love for his family and found great peace outdoors. A tree will be planted as a living memorial to Ted.
Friends may call at the Haskett Funeral Home, 370 William Street, Exeter (1 street west of Main) on Thursday evening 6-8 PM. There will be a Lions Memorial Service in the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:45 PM. The funeral service will be held at the Exeter United Church, 42 James Street, Exeter on Friday, December 23rd at 11 AM with Rev. Laurie O’Leary officiating. Interment Exeter Cemetery.
Donations to the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Ted while I was on staff at the ABCA and a member of the Conservation Dinner Committee. I always really enjoyed visits with Ted, sharing current and stories from the past, learning from him and taking guidance and suggestions about moving forward with conservation projects and fundraising events. He was a deeply loyal, dedicated, talented and respected man… and I am sad to hear of his passing.
My sincere condolences,

Our condolences to Donna, Randy and Susann on your loss. Ted was indeed a very special person, who left a lasting legacy in his beloved Town of Exeter and the Ausable-Bayfield Watershed.
I first met Ted in 1969, as a 23 year old, when I arrived in Exeter as Manager of the Ausable River Conservation Authority. Ted was a recent addition to the field staff, but you could tell immediately that he had a real passion for the work of the Authority. He was a true friend and mentor to me.
His hobby back then was restoring antique furniture in the workshop attached to the family house on Marlborough St. which was filled with all his handiwork.
We shared a common love for the Bruce Peninsula and it was Ted who encouraged me to purchase a small woodlot on “the Bruce”, which he often visited enroute to his beloved cabin on Dorcas Bay.
Kathryn and I remember fondly the great visit we had with Ted and Donna at their “new house” overlooking the river valley.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Dear ones: We remember when we first met Ted when we were just starting our careers at the Ausable Bayfield CA in the 1980s and enjoyed the annual summer staff get-togethers in your backyard on Marlborough Street. Ted was always willing to share his experiences and what he had learned from projects – there was no copyright on his knowledge. He’s left a lasting legacy in the watershed and will not be forgotten.
