1951 – 2021
Gail (Tirone) Balcome died suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 69 years of age. Loving wife of Jim for over 51 years. Beloved mother of Veronica (Marc Meuris), Jimmy (Samantha Heatherington), and Vanessa (Jim McKay). She was a proud Grammy/Nana of Jared, Josh, Joseph, Kylie, Christina and Morgyn, as well as a loving sister of Diane and doting Aunt to many.
Gail suffered a major stroke after getting home from the hospital following a successful hip replacement surgery. She has left us all far too early. Gail demonstrated every day in all kinds of ways, how important family and friends were to her. She loved regular ‘family nights’, backyard parties and vacations with her family. Algonquin Park and camping at Mew Lake became one of her most favourite places. Moving to Dashwood a couple of years ago with her husband Jim, was for her finally living the dream. It is there that she made lots of new friends at Birch Bark Estates.
Gail was special. She was a part of the Guardian Angel Foundation for over 30 years, knitting hundreds of outfits for preemies born at McMaster and St Joseph’s Hospitals in Hamilton. She was sensitive, gentle, and had a quiet strength. She was proud of her family and always let them know it. She would listen, was encouraging, honest and always said or did something to make her family laugh. She was very loved and now leaves behind a gaping hole in the hearts of anyone who knew her that can never be filled. She will be missed always and never forgotten by her family and friends.
Keeping with Gail’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Haskett Funeral Home, Exeter (519-235-1220).
If desired, in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be to Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation – McMaster Children’s Hospital (NICU) or to a charity of your choice.

Dear Jim, Veronica, Vanessa and families….. it is with a heavy heart that we send our deepest sympathy on the passing of Gail. Such a sweet, generous person who deeply loved her family. I remember the time you all came to Nova Scotia and were at our place and also camped at Risser’s Beach. We had many good memories and lots of laughs. I pray that your happy memories will help you with the grief you are experiencing now. Our sincere condolences to the whole family.
