Born November 7, 1947 – Passed April 19, 2024
Passed away peacefully at LHSC – University Hospital on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the age of 76. Adoring Husband to Carol Borden for 40 years. Kind and giving Father to Brett and Tracy Borden, Jeff Hoffman, Randy and Diane Hoffman, and Terry and Sherri Hoffman. Adored grandfather of Quinn; Ryan, Hayley; Corey, Cayla; Taylor, and Courtney and great-grandfather of Mira. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Sandra and Rob May, Gail and Zeb Talach, Bob and Carol Johnston, and Robert and Elizabeth “Tootie” Merner. Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Peter and Marjorie (McAinsh) Borden.
Richard loved his wife to the infinity and beyond. They enjoyed times travelling to the Caribbean, Florida and driving “Old Blue” his prized Honda Goldwing through Montana, Wyoming and New York State. Richard was an O.P.P Detective constable through and through, serving 30 years and an additional 5 as a Civilian Consultant. If you wanted to hear an interesting story Rick could leave an audience spell bound. On his travels he met many interesting people: Terry Fox, John Diefenbaker, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, Ken Danby and Henry Winkler, and he talked to them just like he would an old friend. A true piece of Canada has moved onto the next level. An avid sports man Rick enjoyed his tennis, golf, and any other sport he might beat you at. A winner most times, he had a tactful way of keeping things interesting before he fired the winning blow. He lived his life to the fullest and will be remembered by all those who met him. Just one more story Rick.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street, Exeter on Friday, April 26th from 4 – 8 PM. Where the funeral service will be on Saturday, April 27th at 11 AM. Interment Bluewater Bronson Line Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Terry Fox Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Brett, Tracy , Carol, Terry, Randy and Jeff. On behalf of the Soldan family, so sorry for your loss. Rick was a generous man. The last time I met with him, he donated to the Huron OPP Terry Fox head shave. Now that I know he met Terry Fox years ago, it likely meant more to Rick to support his cause. I also remember his German Shepherd that used to be a K-9 dog? You had to hold the screen door when you stopped by the house! Thinking of you all.
