I had the pleasure, a little over 8 years ago of being matched with Harold, as a Hospice Volunteer.
Harold had been struggling after moving from Exeter to Seaforth Manor and I was a new volunteer.
They say that people cross your path for a reason and I truly believe that Harold offered me much more, over the years, than he ever received back as a result of my visits.
Over the years we developed a friendship and, during the summer months I would push Harold down the street in his wheelchair to Freeze King (his suggestion) for a bite to eat (my treat a course).
Harold was also never shy about speaking his mind and I would often find out during a visit that I was in need of either a cut, colour or both.
Unfortunately, because of COVID 19 and the lock downs at the nursing home, I didn’t get to see Harold as much as I would have liked to and just as we were getting back into our visiting routine, Harold passed away.
I will miss you Harold and all the good conversations that we didn’t get to have.

My deepest sympathies. Although you aren’t supposed to have favourites in a nursing home, Harold was mine. So sorry to hear he is gone. I talked to him outside not long ago and he was always polite and smiling . I will miss him.
