1941-2023
We sadly announce that Catherine Marie “Cathy” Evans-LaPorte passed on April 18, 2023, at Queensway Nursing Home in Hensall in her 82nd year. Loving wife of Anthony (Tony) LaPorte for 28 years. Loved by her children and their spouses Dan Evans and Nellie, Dale Evans and Stephanie Allen, Drew Evans and Jen, and Cathy Evans and Mike Mommersteeg. Cherished by her brother and sister-in- law Lloyd and Wendy Courtnage, and sister Millie Nagle. Heartfelt appreciation and deep gratitude to Monique Hartman. Remembered by Lindsay LaPorte.
Cathy was loved and admired by seven grandchildren; her extended family (Courtnage, Hyde, Bowerman, Nagle, LaPorte) and Cheryl Hill (Rick). A social person, Cathy brought light to any room she entered. She is fondly remembered by the folks in the communities where she lived and travelled. Cathy and her late husband Andy (1991) owned Evans Farm Market fruit and vegetable stand in the 70s and 80s. Many teens from the Bayfield and Clinton area had their first summer jobs working on their farm.
Before that, they were foster parents and dairy farmers on Andy’s family vegetable and dairy farm near Bealton, Ontario in Norfolk County. Cathy grew up in a flour mill nearby in Victoria Mills, Ontario, with her siblings and parents Lloyd (1959) and Gertrude Courtnage (1982). Cathy was predeceased by brother-in-law Jim Nagle (2021) and Danny LaPorte (2021).
Visitation will be held at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 73334 Bluewater Hwy, Zurich on Saturday, April 22nd from 9:30 – 10:30 AM, where the funeral mass will be held at 11 AM with Father Vince Gullikers, presiding. Inurnment St. Peter’s Cemetery, St. Joseph.
For those who are unable to attend the mass a recording will available on Saturday afternoon at www.facebook.com/haskettfh.
Donations to Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners would be appreciated by the family. Cathy was an avid walker who was often seen making several trips around the cul-de-sac in St. Joseph. We encourage you to support the Walk for Alzheimer’s, May 27, 2023, or act in your own way.

What a Wonderful neighbour and friend!
Cathy will be greatly missed. She was always a pleasure to talk with whether for a quick visit in the yard or an evening chat. I enjoyed listening to her proudly tell me about her grandchildren and what they were currently doing. Cathy was so welcoming whenever I stopped by. I always left with a smile on my face due to her humour. She also had a genuine passion to help others. I have fond memories of watching Tony and Cathy drive by on their lawn tractors to go cut someone’s grass. Later in life, the big smile I would see on Cathy’s face was priceless, as Tony drove her through my yard on the golf cart. I was blessed to be Tony and Cathy’s neighbour for over 25 years.
