My deepest sympathies to Fr. Matt’s family. It still seems surreal that he is gone but he will never be forgotten. He was very devoted to the Cursillo movement. I will always remember the summer BBQs we had in Alymer where he led the sing-a-longs playing his guitar. And I still picture him knitting on our Cursillo weekends. I have several fond memories of Fr. Matt and will remember him in prayer.
R.I. P. Father Matt. Now you’ll be singing & playing your guitar for the heavenly choir. Until we meet again.

Dear George Family,
My deepest sympathy for the loss of Father Matt. He was our parish priest at St. Peters Church in St. Joseph, ON. He will be deeply missed by our parishes in the Zurich area, as well as the Zurich community. Father Matt always had a smile to share with you. He cared and took the time to get to know his parishioners personally. When he first came to our parishes, I remember him expressing how happy he was to be the pastor of St. Boniface and St. Peters. He loved to share a joke and relate a story. He was very devoted to Cusillo.
One of his many efforts that I will remember him for is how he worked with the other pastors in the area to promote unity in the Zurich and Exeter area churches. One of my fondest memories of Father Matt is when he was playing his guitar and singing with Pastor Ryan and Pastor Nadine on the stage at the Bean Festival Sunday Service a few years ago. He really encouraged the parishioners to take part in the joint activities among the churches in our area such as the live Nativity and the Bean Festival Sunday Service.
May you rest in peace Father Matt,
Sandy Wondergem

Dear George Family,
We send our sympathies and prayers to you during this sad time. Fr. Matt was our pastor at St. Mary’s Church in Maidstone. He was instrumental in so many ministries especially with our youth and the less fortunate. From coordinating World Youth Day in 2002 with 100 pilgrims, priests and Bishop from County Meath in Ireland, to social justice, to right to life, and on and on. His unique sense of humour and style will never be forgotten. As a fellow Scouter he led the Scout Vesper at my former late husband’s burial, “Softly falls the light of day, as our campfire fades away. Silently each Scout asks, have I done my daily task? Have I given the world my care, remembering to smile and share? Scouts turn to God in prayer, knowing He will always care.” Rest in peace Fr. Matt….job well done.
