Valerie Laura (Monahan) Grech, in her 75th year, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 after a 14 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Surrounded by loved ones, Valerie is now at peace.
Valerie was a beautiful, intelligent, and caring daughter, wife, mother & grandmother. Valerie was born on July 6, 1949 in Dublin, Ireland. She moved to Canada in 1967 with her parents, Patricia and Richard Monahan and siblings, Alan (Mary), Caroline (Frank), Derek, Sylvia (Mike) and Louise (Todd). It is there that she met the love of her life Joseph Grech and married him on her 19th Birthday, July 6, 1968. Joe and Valerie raised their daughters, Jennifer and Julie in London, Ontario until they moved to Bayfield, Ontario to enjoy their retirement together.
Valerie enjoyed music, dancing, socializing with her close circle of friends, and loved to travel to Florida with her beloved husband, Joe. She remained active until Alzheimer’s stole her independence and so much more.
She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Jennifer (Scott), Julie (Lou), grandchildren, Dustin (Melissa), Nicole (Devon), Kristina (Matthew), James, Jackson and Cy. Valerie will be dearly missed by her sister-in-law & brothers-in-law, Henry (Maria), Tessie (Salvatore), Paul (Frances) and was sadly predeceased by her parents, Patricia (Murphy) and Richard Monahan, mother-in-law and father-in-law Josephine (Craig) and Joseph Grech and brothers-in-laws Matthew, Salvatore (Tessie) Godwin (Leslie) and her sisters-in-laws Karen Monahan and Nancy Kenny . Aunty Valerie will be missed dearly by her many nieces and nephews. They all adored her very much.
Special thanks to the wonderful, caring staff at Bluewater Rest Home, in Zurich, Ontario. Valerie was cared for with an abundance of love, respect and dignity.

I remember seeing Valerie when I was a little girl living across the street from the Grech family. I thought she was the prettiest lady ever. She was always so kind to us and of course so was Joe. After they moved away, it seemed like years went by before I met up with them again in either Goderich or Bayfield. They were still the nicest people ever and she was still so pretty.
Our deepest sympathies goes out to Joe, the girls and their families and sending warm hugs to all of you.
Wayne and Melita.

From the McClean’s: please accept our most sincere and deepest condolences on the passing of Mrs. Grech (Valerie). To say she was kind, caring, funny, charismatic mom that kept us neighbourhood girls in line is an understatement because she offered so much more. I am truly blessed to have known her from the early age of 5 and all the stories and the shenanigans will never run dry.
