Peacefully with family by her side at Jessica’s House, Exeter on October 4, 2022 of Zion (Usborne Twp.) at the age of 85. Beloved wife of Keith Hern for over 65 years. Loving mother of the late Judy Lang-Hern, Donald Hern, Paul Hern (Michelle), and Joan Hern (Travis Davis). Proud grandma of Ryan, and Katie; Tara and Nick (Shantalle); Aaron, and Aimee (Matt); Emily and Ethan; and great grandchildren Willow, Ava, Evan, Elizabeth, Dan, Jack, Tyler, and Francis. Dear sister-in-law of Bob and Frances Kinsman. Missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by parents Ernest and May (Armstrong) Ferguson, granddaughter Meagan, sisters Grace Zavitz (Ken), and Kay Hord (Dave), brother Clayton Ferguson (Eunice), parents-in-laws Ross and Florence Hern.
Dorothy was dedicated to her family and loved them dearly. She was a proud farmers wife and a talented seamstress and smocker. Her creations were enjoyed by many. Dorothy liked to spend time in the kitchen baking and enjoyed being outside in her garden. She had a strong faith in the Lord, which could be seen through her kindness and love of people.
A private family funeral will be held. Interment Zion Cemetery. Donation to Jessica’s House or South Huron Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Dear Keith, Donald, Paul & Michelle, Joan and your families,
Larry and I extend our sympathy to you all on the passing of Dorothy, your dear wife, Mom and Grandmother.
Working together with Dorothy at our Ladies Breakaways and other Zion West Church functions will be some of the warm memories I will cherish of her. Another fond keepsake is the lovely yellow smocked dress that she made for our daughter and has been also worn by both our granddaughters. It is tucked away, and if we are lucky we may someday see another generation get to wear it and be told about the kind lady that made it years ago. May she rest in peace and be reunited with many friends in Heaven.

On behalf of myself and the Zavitz family: I extend out deepest sympathy to you Uncle Keith, Don, Paul and Joan and all members of the family deeply sorry for your loss, Aunt Dorothy was the youngest in her family and will be so deeply missed. We remember so many good times and great memories and sad ones to. Aunt Dorothy is at peace now and with her lord and savior. Uncle Keith you’re the one left behind and it’s hard you were together a very long time. Hang on to the memories it’s ok to cry and please know you’re in many peoples thoughts and prayers. Aunt Dorothy always worried if she passed first about you and wants you to eat so don’t let her down even if you don’t feel like it, eat because she wants you to. To the rest of the family check in with Keith because his life just completely changed and that’s what Dorothy would want. I have many memories and may God hold each of you in the palm of his hand. Uncle Keith he knows how your feeling and remember the shortest verse in the Bible “Jesus Wept “so he is with you and knows all your feeling and what days will be like to come.

There are glimpses of friendships shared in community and holiday activities. You were blessed with a wonderful 65 years together. Keith , your smile says it all! I have lovely memories of Dorothy’s smile and conversations as we prepared worship together for UCW or kitchen duties called at a Zion Church activity. Carol and I want to offer our sympathies with the passing of a wonderful person who we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with in recent times. She is one of the original pioneer feeling like persons which unfortunately there are too few left. Im sure Keith could go On for hours with our own amazement of times the way they were and have passed us by. Hold on strong to those traditions and memories and we will all hold a piece of the past with them at the reigns!
