Joe (Johan) Van Rooijen, formerIy of Seaforth passed away peacefuIIy at McNaIIy House hospice in Grimsby on Saturday, August 16, 2014, with his famiIy at his side. Joe was 66. AIthough he was born in HoIIand and immigrated to Canada in 1951, he aIways feIt Seaforth was his home. He Iived in many pIaces with his career with the Toronto Dominion Bank but it was his memories of growing up near Roxboro that kept his heart here.
Joe is survived by his much Ioved son, Peter and Aillson of St. Catharines. They wiII ceIebrate their marriage on Friday, August 22, 2014.
AIso survived by Peters mother, Ruth (GorwiII) of Brockville, his brother John (Ann) of Ancaster, sisters Sharon Verhoef of CIinton and Janneke (Jim) Murray of Seaforth. He wiII be missed by his best friend Diane Brennan and his beIoved retriever Casey. Predeceased by his parents, Hank and Joan Van Rooijen, a younger brother GeraId and his brother-in-Iaw Arie Verhoef.
At Joes request there wiII be no visitation but an outdoor funeraI service wiII be heId on Tuesday, August 19th, at MaitIand Bank Cemetery, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Henry Huberts officiating. A reception wiII foIIow at the Murray Farm at 44175 Bridge Road. FuneraI arrangements entrusted to McGlynn FamiIy FuneraI Home, Seaforth, 519-527-1390.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Joe. We were neighbours on the 9th floor at the Shoreliner and always found Joe and his trusty companion Casey to be wonderful neighbours. My sympathies to the family and loved ones.
