Peacefully on Sunday November 6, 2011 with loved ones by his side, recently of Denfield and formally of London in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Frances (Bourne) Monk. Loving father to Audrey(Andrew) Monk of Poplar Hill, Mardy (Sam) Monk, Cindy (Scott) Robins, Heather (Michael) Monk, Sheila (Phil) Willer, David (Janice) Monk, Michael (Karen) Monk, Patricia (Chris) Chisholm, Kathy (Tom) Decoste all of London; Jamie (Debra) Monk of St Thomas; and Geriald (Cheryl) of Woodstock, predeceased by son Kevin. Dear brother to Ruth, Eileen, Rita, Joy and stepbrother Clifford. Predeceased by sisters Helen and Florence, brother Carl and step brother Patrick. Fondly remembered by grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ken will fondly be cherished by many friends everywhere for his kindness, generosity and passion for life.
Ken was the owner/operator of Monk’s Auto Body formally of London and recently of Denfield and took pride in every car he worked on. Ken has had a passion for horses throughout his life so in lieu of flowers we ask donations be made to SARI Therapeutic Riding in Arva, Ontario in Ken’s name.
Friends may call at the Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Lucan on Thursday, November 10th from 12-1 PM where a memorial service will be held on Thursday at 1:30PM.
We are always willing to go where called upon but this image shows a visual of the communities that our included in our initial transportation fee. We offer a 40km radius from any of our 5 locations (Arva (London), Exeter, Lucan, Seaforth, and Zurich). Any mileage beyond the included 40km will be charged a rate of $2.50/km (one way travel only).

so sorry for your loss of a great guy.i knew ken for 45 years he taught me how to do body work and spray paint.as he was one of the best. sure have lots of fond memories.one i still laugh about every time i think about it .ken painted a pretty red car for cliff hamond a used car dealer .was 2am in the morning as ken always worked lots of hrs.and after we backed it out of the bake oven ken got the spray gun and sprayed a big H on the hood as a joke.when cliff came to pick it up in the morning he pretty near swallowed his cigar.he never said a word just left. we washed the car down and ken repainted it that day .ken was always up for a good laugh and we had lots of laughs out of that joke. will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting him.

So sorry for your loss. I knew Ken for over 45 years and sure had a lot of fun times when I worked for him in the shop on Brydges st. He taught me how to do body work and paint. One memory I’ll never forget and chuckle to myself every time I think about it. Was 2am and Ken just painted a red car for Cliff Hammond and when he finished he put a big h on the hood as a joke. Next morning he repainted the car. we laughed about it everytime we met after that. That’s the kind of fun times we had. Will miss all those good laughs.

John ( as I always called him) sold me my first car! I emptied my college fund and hit the wide open road! Sadly that same car came to burst into flames on the side of the road just past the shop on Wonderland. As John and I stood watching it burn his response was…..”if you had wanted the windows tinted that bad all you had to do was ask!”

I have so many happy memories of Ken. I knew him as Uncle Gil. He is a man that I admired and looked up to as a child. He was always there, reliable, hard working, with a witty point of view on things and interesting to talk to. His shop was a gathering place for people to drop in and socialize as well as a place of very hard work. I think a lot of people got their start with Gil’s help and he gave them work to carry them through difficult times. He slept there. He ate there. He gave me my first job sanding cars even though I wasn’t good at it. He and his family treated my family and I with so much kindness and generosity over the years. Gil and Celia showed up often with food or other things we needed. He seemed to feed the world on KFC and burgers at the shop. He bought me my first bike and I really loved my uncle Gil. The years haven’t dimmed those feelings. I hope every one of his family and friends will accept my condolences. I truly sympathize with you and share your loss

Reading through the messages of condolences it reminds me that to some people my uncle was known as Ken, to some others John, but to me, he was always known affectionately as Uncle Gil.
You see, my most loving memories of my Uncle Gil are also from my childhood.
After my father died, my Uncle Gil was like a father to my sister Patt, my brother Mike and I. Both my aunt and uncle were kind and generous to us. Uncle Gil was also very supportive of my mother Luella (now deceased) and I was always very grateful for that.
I will miss him and I send my condolences to all of his friends, family and relatives.

Ken was one of the kindest men I knew, I doubt that he realized the impact he made in my life, he taught me so much in his auto body shop, when I worked for him so many years ago, we had the good fortune to have him in our lives for over fourty years. We will surely miss all the wonderful Sunday morning breakfasts we had the priviledge to share with Ken and Francis at the North Star restaurant in Elginfield.
