Neil lost his battle from cancer on Monday, January 22, 2024 in his 72nd year. He was boy #4 for Harvey and Bessie (Callum) McClure’s crew. Eight boys and one girl in total. Raised on a farm just west of Walton.
Dear brother of Bill (Sharon) of Winthrop, Laverne (Nita) of Walton, Clyde (Cathy) of Walton, Rae of Forestburg, AB, Fred (Heidi) of Walton, Edward of Walton and Carolyn Johns (Gerald) of Exeter. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, step-children, close friends and cousins. Predeceased by his parents and one brother, Stanley (Donna).
Crippled by a tragic car/truck accident when he was 20 in 1974, Neil has always kept a positive attitude. Thinking about what he could do and not dwelling on what he could not do in a wheelchair. He attended Mohawk college after the accident where he graduated with honours and he went on to be a respected employee in the Insurance Industry. He was quite proud of the teardrop camper he and his brothers built. He traveled coast to coast with it behind his car.
In keeping with Neil’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date at Maitlandbank Cemetery.
Donations to Huronview, Clinton would be appreciated by the family.
To quote Neil not long ago, “I have lived a good life.”
Murray and Sandra Pepper
Our sincere condolences to the McClure clan. Many good memories with the Seaforth Golden Bears football team. Slippery would say to Bill Whyte and myself, “Just open me up a little hole,” and he’d be through in a flash and take out the quarterback. One tough fellow! Bush parties and house parties, and running the roads with Slippery were a lot of fun. Memories to cherish.

Neil had that “never say never” attitude. I don’t think in all the years we have known Neil did he ever lament of his being in a wheelchair. Enroute to the cottage rather late one Saturday night, we were stopped by the police. Neil never missed a beat when asked to step out of the vehicle…..he just invited the officer into the passenger side. Didn’t dampen our weekend! Still smile about the other things we did that weekend!

To the entire McClure family,
Please accept our condolences on Neil’s passing.
He always enjoyed a great time, both before and after his accident.
Looking through the pictures, I was reminded of when a bunch of us were up at his cottage. He thought it would be a good idea for him to ride behind the boat in the tire!! It was fine as long as he was in the water, it was getting him out of the tire and back into the boat! After much struggleing, we succeeded in getting him back into the boat.
We all need to treasure those wonderful memories of Neil.
Keith & Gloria Wilbee

The Optimist Club of Kirkton-Woodham wish to extend our condolences to Neil’s family. Neil was president of our club in 2015-16 and also organized the bike rodeo for the kids. My sympathy and condolences to all the McClure family. Like all the McClure boys Neil was a great guy. I remember him from school and ran into him several times over the years at his work in London at Insurance Companies. We always had a good chat.
His life took an unfortunate twist in 1974 when he ended up in a wheelchair. I always admired how he handled it and carried on with life with such a positive attitude. He was one of the good ones.
