I drove tour bus out of Goderich. I did a month long tour to the west coast in ’83 and ’84 with Gary. We took roughly 100 rotary exchange students on two coaches and a van. He was easy going and said what he thought. I wish we could do that trip again. I’m saddened to hear of his passing.

I was shocked to hear of Gary’s death on Thursday. All of you are in my prayers. I have many memories of Gary and his unbounded desire to make his community and his church the best places they could be.
Christ said, “in my father’s house there are many rooms. . . .” and I am sure that Gary has found his and he’s helping to maintain everyone else’s, too!!
Find peace and joy in the memories that you carry with you and let God carry you over the rough patches. God has the strength to do that when you don’t.
Blessings to you all,

Gary was my first Lucan connection and he was a tireless, enthusiastic community ambassador. I was welcomed warmly by you both to your home for my nursing visits and to Lucan. We shared some laughs and in my workday, knowing I was paying a visit to Gary was always a highlight. His respect for nurses and support for VON was remarkable and he was always going the extra mile for us. I am truly saddened by his passing and am thinking of you all at this terribly difficult time.

Marlyne and family…
I extend to you, your family and friends my deepest sympathy in the death of Gary. As I grew up in Lucan, I have known Gary all my life. When we were just kids both of us living on Main Street, Oney,
Garys mom would set out the radio on their front steps and whoever was around at that time would roller skate on #4 Highway between the bank and Haskett’s Furniture Store. Our roller skates were strapped to our shoes and then tightened with a key. There was not a lot of traffic on #4 in those good old days.
Gary was a wonderful citizen for the town of Lucan and we will
miss him.

Marlyne and family,
Please accept my sincere condolences at the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. Gary always took a few extra minutes to speak to me whenever I saw him within the community, even when he didn’t recognize who I was, but I called him by his name. I have a few memories of “Goof” back when I was younger, but the one I remember with a chuckle was when he was at the Hayter house and he walked right through the patio window…beverages may have been a factor, either way, I still laugh thinking about his reaction to walking through the screen. He will be missed by many. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Bev Dayman (Dauncey)
