It is with great sadness that the family of Catherine Ann Northey (McLaughlin) announce her passing on January 31, 2016 at Prince George Residence, Lucan at the age of 90 formerly of St. Joseph, London and Exeter. Ann was predeceased by her husband Gilbert Northey (2008), daughter Suzanne (2011), grandchildren infant Thomas Smart, and Kelly Northey, brother Basil and sister Mary. She will be greatly missed by her children Steve Northey (Melodie) of Grand Bend, Karen Smart of Hamilton, Lawrence Northey (Julie) of Salt Spring Island, BC, and Melanie Hardie (Gord) of Exeter. She is survived by brother Joe McLaughlin (Anne), and sister Teresa Day of Lethbridge, AB, several nephews and nieces. Loved dearly by 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Her family was fortunate to have had the time to let her know how much she was loved. No one in the family will be able to watch a Blue Jays ballgame or Tiger Woods golf, see a hand knitted sweater or premie head warming toque without thinking of her. Reading and Crossword puzzles were her favourite pastime and certainly she was a staunch competitor playing card games. Ann knew more than she said, judged others less because she lived a life with plenty of her own challenges and conducted herself in such a way as to minimize inconvenience to others.
As per Ann’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date at the Exeter Cemetery columbarium.
Donations in Ann’s memory may be made to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada supporting the legacy of her precious granddaughter Kelly Northey to help children and families coping with the diagnosis of a brain tumour. They may be made online at www.braintumour.ca, mailed to 620 Colborne Street, Suite 301, London, ON N6B 3R9.
