I would like to offer my sympathies of your loss. It was a great honor to have met him and have such wonderful memories of the Winthrop area shared. I learned more about horse racing and soccer after our afternoon of visiting. Always appreciative of help, never took anything for granted. He was the kindest of people.

Merv and Joy were great friends of Doug and I for many decades. I have so many wonderful memories of fishing trips, taking our girls to their place in Hensall (and Merv finding the tiny doll that our oldest dropped in the cornfield), and in more recent years, visits and meals at the Clinton casino. When Doug was ill a few years ago, he and Merv would get on the phone and chat every week and I always heard lots of laughter from Doug during those calls. Since both Doug and Joy have passed, Merv and I continued to chat on the phone regularly, in lieu of visits during COVID. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to know and love Merv and have him as part of my life. He will be dearly missed. My sincerest condolences to his family.

I never knew a more gentle and positive man! Mervyn and I grew up together, often spending holidays with each other at Grandma and Grandpa Pepper’s or at our Aunt Pearl’s, when we were kids. Having moved from the area, we didn’t see each other all that often, but when he moved to back to the area, it was wonderful to reconnect once again. He will be missed by all who knew him. RIP Mervyn!
