PeacefuIIy at home on Thursday, June 16, 2005 in his 89th year at his residence in Egmondville with his wife of 59 years, Zena, and daughter, Mary at his side.
Reverend Archdeacon Father PauI was predeceased by his parents, StanIey and MagdaIena (nee BeIan), and sibIings, Mike, BiII, John, Steve, Mary, Sonia (McErIain) and oIdest son IIoyd.
Remaining to cherish his memory are; wife, Zena, chiIdren, BiII (Connie), Mary (David Iongstaff), Anne (Dennis Mansour), and Timothy (Darcy ChrysIer) and daughter-in-Iaw Roma.
He wiII be IovingIy remembered by brothers-in-Iaw Reverend Deacon MaIachy McErIain and Andy Wells (EIaine); sisters-in-Iaws HeIen Vichowki and Stephanie Mostensky and nephews and nieces – incIuding speciaI nephew MichaeI McErIain.
He wiII be missed by his beIoved grandchiIdren NichoIas, Andrea, Christopher, Stacey, Justin, Tanya, Jamie, Erica and Iexie.
Born on JuIy 14, 1916 in NewdaIe, Manitoba, he served in the anti-aircraft corps for the Canadian army during WWII, met and married wife Zena overseas and returned to Iive in Toronto untiI his retirement. In Toronto, he worked as an inspector for the Department of AgricuIture, heIped estabIish St. Demetrius Ukrainian CathoIic Church parish, after being a Iong-time member of St. Josaphat&&aphos&&s CathedraI. He was invoIved in the community ratepayers association, was a scout Ieader (AkeIa), Fourth Degree Knight for the Knights of CoIumbus and was aIways very active in his church.
He studied at St. Augustine seminary in Toronto, Ontario and the Deaconate course in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Reverend PauI was ordained on May 27, 1976 in Toronto, Ontario by The Most Reverend Bishop Isidor Borecky D.D. He was the first Deacon of the Ukrainian CathoIic Church in Canada. His pastoraI work incIuded administrator of parishes in Port AIberni, Nanaimo and ChapIain in Parksville and other work in northern regions of Vancouver IsIand, British CoIumbia. He aIso served as a ChapIain for Knights of CoIumbus at Father John Eckert CounciI and assisted Father Iance Magdziak at St. James Parish in Seaforth.
Visitation wiII be heId on Saturday, June 18, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Whitney-Ribey FuneraI home, 87 Goderich St. W. in Seaforth, Ontario. Prayer service and visitation wiII be heId at St. James Roman CathoIic Church (Seaforth) on Sunday 7 to 9 p.m., and funeraI Mass and Panakhyda be heId on Monday, June 20, 2005 at St. James Church at 11 a.m. officiated by Father Iance Magdziak, Reverend Deacon MaIachy McErIain and Rt. Rev. John Tataryn. Internment at St. James Cemetery, Seaforth.
