I was very sorry to learn of the death of my old high school friend Robert.
When I moved to Hensall as a 16-year-old in 1963 it was Robert and Ted Mock who first befriended me. I&&single&&ll alway think of Robert as Sooey (Suey??) as that was his nickname at the time though I never figured out why (or how to spell it.)
I remember spending many happy hours cruising the streets of Hensall in Robert&&single&&s Dad&&single&&s green Chevy. It didn&&single&&t take long to make one round of the streets of Hensall so some nights I&&single&&m sure we made 20 rounds, ostensibly looking for gals but mostly listening to rock music on the radio.
Robert&&single&&s favourite group was the Beach Boys, and he loved singing Barbara Ann in a falsetto voice. (He was a tenor in the United Church choir as I recall.)
At our 25-year reunion of our South Huron High School graduaton in Robert and his wife were kind enough to host us for the weekend (along with Dan Lenehan and his wife.) Unfortunately I never saw him at another reunion and we lost touch.
But I have many happy memories of what a kind, cheerful friend he was and I offer my condolences to you, his family….Rest in peace Sooey…..Dave Pyette
