In Loving Memory of Mario Jose Sanchez Suarez (1939-2024)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario Jose Sanchez Suarez, who departed this world on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the age of 84. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, to Luis Alfonso Sanchez and Maria del Carmen Suarez, and brother of Elena Sanchez Suarez and Gilma Sanchez de Rey, Mario was a man loved and cherished by his family and friends.
He attended high school at Colegio Mariscal Sucre in Bogotá and pursued his Petroleum Engineering degree from Universidad Industrial de Santander in Bucaramanga, Colombia, graduating at the top of his class. Mario’s exceptional talent for oil exploration took him to many countries around the world, and allowed him to live in Argentina, Venezuela, and eventually Canada, where he resided for 30 years and successfully founded an oil exploration company. In 1989, he returned to Bogotá to discover his second passion: farming. For 25 years, Mario devoted himself to agriculture, as well as horse and cattle ranching in his beloved region of Tolima, Colombia.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mario was passionate about the importance of education, the environment, and human rights. He had a lifelong devotion for literature, science, mathematics, movies, and music. Known for his wisdom, guidance, kindness, and sense of humor, Mario has left a lasting impact on his family and friends. Always the first to offer help, his generosity and spirit will forever be remembered. He is survived by his 6 children, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren along with family and friends who will dearly miss him.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 87 Goderich Street West, SEAFORTH on Tuesday, July 2nd from 9:30 AM -10:00 AM where Mario’s funeral service will be held at 10 AM. Con corazones afligidos anunciamos el fallecimiento de Mario José Sánchez Suárez, quien partió de este mundo el domingo 23 de junio de 2024, a la edad de 84 años. Nacido en Bogotá, Colombia, hijo de Luis Alfonso Sánchez y María del Carmen Suárez, y hermano de Elena Sanchez Suarez y Gilma Sanchez de Rey, Mario fue un hombre amado y apreciado por su familia y amigos. Asistió a la secundaria en el Colegio Mariscal Sucre en Bogotá y cursó su carrera de Ingeniería de Petróleos en la Universidad Industrial de Santander en Bucaramanga, Colombia, graduándose en la cima de su clase. El excepcional talento de Mario para la exploración petrolera lo llevó a muchos países alrededor del mundo y le permitió vivir en Argentina, Venezuela y, finalmente, Canadá, donde residió durante 30 años y exitosamente fundó una empresa de exploración de petroleos. En 1989, regresó a Bogotá para descubrir su segunda pasión: la agricultura. Durante 25 años, Mario se dedicó a la agricultura, así como a la cría de caballos y ganado en su amada región de Tolima, Colombia. Más allá de sus logros profesionales, Mario era apasionado por la importancia de la educación, el medio ambiente y los derechos humanos. Tuvo una devoción de por vida por la literatura, la ciencia, las matemáticas, las películas y la música. Conocido por su sabiduría, guía, amabilidad y sentido del humor, Mario ha dejado un impacto duradero en su familia y amigos. Siempre el primero en ofrecer ayuda, su generosidad y espíritu serán recordados para siempre. Le sobreviven sus 6 hijos, 10 nietos y 3 bisnietos, junto con familiares y amigos que lo extrañarán profundamente.
La visita se llevará a cabo en Haskett Funeral Home, 87 Goderich Street West, SEAFORTH el martes 2 de julio de 9:30 a.m. a 10:00 a.m., donde se realizará el servicio fúnebre de Mario a las 10 a.m. Transmita el servicio en vivo, o cuando lo desee, visitando www.facebook.com/haskettfh.
