It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Elizabeth Eleanor Schweitzer(nee Hern) loving and caring Wife, Mother, Grandma Elle, Sister, Aunt and friend to all whose lives she touched. On April 19,2023 she left us peacefully after precious time spent with her family at her side, at People Care Oakcrossing, she was in her 84th year.
Eleanor was born on January 30, 1939 in Usborne Township, Huron County. Eleanor’s mother Ruby Elizabeth Hern(Dowds) was born in Londonderry Ireland and her father Earl Hern was from Huron County, they were married in Ingersoll Jan 1 1938. Eleanor was the beloved Wife of Garth Schweitzer (deceased), they fell in love in 1983 and had an intimate wedding on Dec 2, 2005. Eleanor was a beloved Mother to Wendy Sutherland (Robert) Bradley Powell(deceased), Blair Masschelein, Phillip Masschelein (Laura). Beloved Stepmother to Alice Melfi (John), Cindy Schweitzer-Blaha (John) and Debbie Jeffery(Brian). She loved her precious Grandchildren Kyle and Dylan Sutherland, Blake, Caroline and Liam Masschelein, Charlotte and Reed Masschelein, Kayla Melfi, Joshua Melfi (Marsh), Natasha Melfi (Matthew), Ashley Jeffrey (Chris), and great grandchildren Annabelle and Emma-Lynne, Celle and Gia. Remembered by her sisters, Carol Hern, Ruth McLeod (John), Susan Parsons (Blain) and Brother David Hern (Gayle), Brother in law Brian Schweitzer (Doreen) and Sister in law Denise Johnston (David, deceased). She was a special Aunt to many Nieces and Nephews.
Eleanor lived a quiet life, loved her home and she had an endless love for her husband and family. She and her Husband Garth were active members & volunteers of St Martin-in-the-Fields Anglican Church. After the passing of her son, Bradley Dean Powell she volunteered for many years for the Canadian Cancer Society as well as Canadian Blood Services, Heart & Stroke Foundation, United Appeal and the London Museum Art Gallery. Eleanor was an accomplished pianist and a successful business woman; she was a 13 year member of the Merit Corps for London Life. She loved antiques, jewellery, fashion, interior design, long walks, classical music, London Symphony and dancing with her Husband Garth. Eleanor will be dearly missed by all and she is forever on our hearts, she is now in Heaven with her loving Husband Garth.
A very special thank you to all the doctors, nurses, personal care workers, staff and volunteers at PeopleCare Oakcrossing in London Ontario for their many years of wonderful care and comfort.
Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories of Eleanor with her family during Visitation which will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Monday, April 24, 2023 from 10:30AM-12:30PM, where the funeral service will follow at 1:00PM. A burial service will follow at St James Cemetery, Clandeboye Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
