It was a pleasure to share chats together about family, friends and life in general….such a very fine man with a very large heart.

Dear Cindy & Jeff, Glen and families,
We really enjoyed a lunch-time visit with Art at Bartliff’s one day . It was fun to reminisce with him about earlier days in Hensall, where he worked with Jerry at Bendix and was in our church family. He was quite a man. May your memories bring you joy, as you cope with his loss. Condolences to you all.
Sincerely,
Jerry & Linda Traquair

So sorry to hear of Uncle Shen’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
I will always remember the times he came to visit us in Newfoundland and how he would see me and say “how you doing today Aunt Suz’s’, (his nickname for me). Although I never got to see him a lot he always had a special place in my heart and always will.

I only knew Art about a week, but what an impact he made. If we could all find the happiness that he possessed and conveyed to others, the world would be a better place. Thank-you for your laughter and pure heart. With deepest sympathies. I will always remember you.

To the Family of Arthur “Shen” Slade. So saddened to hear of the passing of “Shen”. He was a hero of mine {Hubert) from my earliest recollections in 19046 and through my school years to 1960 when I left Victoria. He continued to be so even though I had not seen him for many years until I was honored to be present for the celebration of his 90th birthday in Victoria during the summer of 2016. Since then we have communicated by phone and through greeting cards. In our most recent telephone conversation he expressed his hopes and plans to be able to come home this summer to visit family, friends, and famous landmarks of formative years. We both exchanged loving, “boasting” proud information of our children and grandchildren’s accomplishments. His love for and pride in you all was abundantly evident. Shen and my dad were first cousins who displayed a great mutual admiration and respect for each other which fostered the same in my siblings and me for him. There are many incidents that I could expand on to show why your dad, granddad, and great-granddad was held in such high esteem by our family. But you are quite aware of his attributes and have every right to be proud of him. To summarize my perception of Shen. He carried himself with dignity and pride (not a haughty arrogant pride, but a respectful pride that engendered a respect for him from those he encountered. Please accept our heartfelt condolences and desire to continue the family bond fostered by your Dad and ours.
