It is with great sadness that the family of Murray Thomas Smith announce his sudden passing on Thursday, April 30, 2020, two days before his 66th birthday. Murray will forever be remembered by his loving wife and best friend Lynda (Wakefield) Smith for over 41 years. Proud and caring father of Kevin and Sarah Smith, and Lisa and Jeffrey Arce. Proud grandpa of Jacob. Cherished son of Jim and Marguerite (Wright) Smith. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Cindy and Jim Galbraith, Deb and Derek Mathers, and Scott and Laughnie Smith. Murray will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Evident by his 35 year career at the Land Registry Office, Murray was an extremely hardworking individual. He welcomed new opportunities with a positive mindset, taking on positions within the Registry Office in Toronto, Newmarket, Orangeville, Stratford, Kitchener, St. Thomas, Woodstock and London. Murray retired from the civil service in 2011, allowing him to focus on his passions for; developing new projects around the house, gardening, travel, sports, music, but most importantly, his family. Murray could always be depended on to provide advice, support, humor or a positive perspective. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
A private family service will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, Exeter (519-235-1220). A public memorial service will be held at a later date, when family and friends can get together to share in hugs, support and stories.
Donations to The Thorndale United Church would be appreciated by the family.

My condolences to Murray’s family. We were good friends back in our childhood days in Sarnia. The Smith’s lived across the street from us on Spartan Ave. Murray & I went all through elementary & high school together. We lost touch over the years, but I often thought of him. In fact, I was just thinking that his birthday was coming up soon. I am very sorry for your loss & are thinking of you in this difficult time. Murray was a good friend!
