I remember my first cousin Verna with many fond memories. She was raised on a Crediton farm that joined our farm to the west. As a kid, I was a follower of her brothers at threshing bees, at Sharon School dances and other events and at the baseball diamond on the Martene farm. I remember Verna as tall and beautiful with a wonderful voice. I remember Gordon and the Stone family and farm. Then her siblings scattered but my mother always sent family news to me as I began to develop my understanding of our family history. Our Wein family reunions brought all of the first cousins back to Crediton. Then a group travelled to the Black Forest of Germany to visit the farms, forests, and towns where our ancestors raised their families. Verna and Art and our cousins had a great time. Now another milestone has been reached with Verna’s passing. I and so many other cousins, the wider family, Vern’s close family, and her many friends will always cherish memories of this remarkable lady.
