After a life full of adventure, hard work, and most importantly … time spent with family, Ron’s departure is now on the horizon. Before it is too late, Ron and his family would like to welcome family and friends to attend a Great Life Celebration on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 1-4 PM. Stop in to say hello (and goodbye). There will be a short tribute at 2:30PM. Dress is casual.
The event is now CONFIRMED to take place at Ron and Shirley’s home. Please dress appropriately for the heat and do not feel obligated to stay all afternoon. If required, Delta has generously offered additional parking across the road.
This is most certainly a difficult time for the Rader family but the support of your attendance on July 23rd to help fulfill Ron’s wish of attending his own celebration of life will be gratefully appreciated.

I was saddened to hear of your recent diagnosis Ron. Thinking of you over the past week brought back a memory that proved you truly are one of a kind! When my dad and I went out to buy my first car, we visited 3 dealerships before stopping in at Exeter Toyota. We made it clear at each stop that I was buying the vehicle. You were the first salesperson who actually talked to me. I was sold on Toyota thanks to you, your kindness and thoughtfulness. You even managed to convince dad to start buying Toyota’s!
My thoughts will be with you and your family in the challenging months ahead.
Marg and Marty Leeson
Ron you are a beautiful soul in so many ways. Reading all the amazing comments just attest to the kind of person you are. Your family and friends will miss you dearly , but what a legacy you have left behind. I do believe in the hereafter and I am going to ask you if you could give a big hug to my baby sister Mary. She reminds me so much of you. Full of life and quite a jokester,
From what I gather you are so loved by everyone, my daughter in;-law especially and her family There will be a tree planted at the camp site and we will make sure it will be taken care of.
You will always be remembered and fondly loved.
Love and Peace

Ron, I am so sorry to hear about your health struggles. You have definitely enriched the community around you with your smile and your kind nature. Years ago I met you when you sold Andrew and I our van and I found you so personable. It was great to meet you again (with your daughter Jenna) in the Exeter running club a few years back and see you when walking on the trail too where you would stop for a little chat. You will always be remembered with your welcoming smile.
Sandy Zurbrigg
Ron, Shirley and family,
I am so sorry I could not attend in person but I was there in spirit. I know it meant a lot to Mom and John to see all of the family and celebrate your lifetime of achievements, connection and love, Ron. I remember our big Rader family gatherings in Zurich with fondness. I am blessed to be part of this family.
I am thinking of you on this difficult journey and wishing you precious time with your loved ones. May you have more moments to celebrate everything you mean to each other.

Dear Ron, Shirley and Family
Randy, Kyle and I met with Jerry and Joanne on the weekend and they shared some of the stories that were told on Saturday. You touched so many peoples lives.
Last week, I saw Audrey Harberer (your elementary teacher) and you came up in the conversation. She said she always remembered you as “such a little gentlemen”. After she said that I paused for a minute and said yes that’s probably one of the best ways to describe you. A true gentleman.
To you and your family, you have been in our thoughts and prayers. Take care.

We hope that you are resting today after such a long day yesterday. I’m sure that I speak for many when I say thank you for planning and hosting such a wonderful event. We are so grateful for you taking the time to allow us the opportunity to share in the laughs and tears, and to express how much you have touched our lives. Allowing so many people into such a difficult time for your family shows how strong you all truly are, and how much you care about others. Being able to give you a hug and tell you what you have meant to us is an invaluable gift that we will cherish always. As you move from this life to the next, we have no doubt that you will learn all the ‘tricks’ in order to be Ron ‘Spirit Extraordinaire’ and show us all that you are watching and with us. Ron, how lucky I was to have met you at Exeter Toyota 27ish years ago! It seems like yesterday. You treated me and everyone who crossed paths with you with friendliness, professionalism, knowledge, care, humour and so much more. You truly are a class act! I’m sad beyond words to hear of your diagnosis. I feel so blessed to have had the good fortune to know you. Heartfelt thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Ron, Shirley and family,
I think of you daily since hearing about your diagnosis and decisions. So brave and thoughtful. I pray that your celebration gives you and your family peace and comfort now, and in the future.
I’m told that the salesman in you is busy selling some of your vehicles. There is one that you better not sell – Shirley’s (formerly mine) Lexus!
Peter and Carol Chapman
What a tribute! Although we did not greet you personally, it was inspiring to be present. You have always been a pleasure to deal with.
We have enjoyed our relationship with you over the years.
Jeannette van Mourik
Ron, Shirley and family
I am so sorry and saddened to hear about your health news Ron.
Even though you married into the deVries family it seems like you were always a part of the family.
When I first met you I thought Shirley definitely found a keeper and a gem of a guy.
Some of my favourite memories are when the deVries and van Mourik families got together in Guelph for picnics – great conversations, lots of food and lots of catching up.
I also have a wonderful memory of the time when I bought the Toyota Celica from you. How many salesmen would drive 2 hours to deliver the car to their customers? Only one who I know of. That totally impressed me! But that’s the kind of guy that you are.
It is so good to know that you are making memories, and we so appreciated the video Shirley sent for mom and dad to see. It is helping mom. She told me that she has always felt a special connection with you.
I have always had the highest respect, regard and love for you Ron. Thank you for allowing us to express our appreciation and gratitude.
As you walk through this difficult time know that my thoughts and prayers are and continue to be with you and your family.
Love,
Doug and Elaine Coxon
Ron, we were both so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. As Doug reminisced it brought back fond memories and a few childhood stories about releasing budgies and putting display items in the hardware store to good use. Doug has had a few of his own health issues lately and is unable to attend your celebration of life today. You and your family are in our thoughts and we pray that you are all able to find peace and comfort going forward. Doug and Elaine

I was shocked to hear the news of your diagnosis from my parents, Gord and Jeanne Hay. My heart goes out to you and your family. I will always remember how nice you were in grade school; you left your mark of kindness at an early age. I am so impressed by the comments of how many lives you have touched over the years with your smile, your laughter, your wit and your thoughtfulness to others. What an inspiration you are to all of us! Thank you for making a difference in the lives of so many. Dear Ron: Though I only had rare occasion to see you as an adult you will always be a part of my youth. Zurich public school was our meeting place and those days are treasured. I even was so bold at one time to mark my eraser with your initials….a serious relationship statement. I followed you and your teammates during your great hockey days along side my Dad. May your remaining time be filled with love of family and friends. Janet Webb

Ron, Shirley,Ben & Jenna & family, We are deeply saddened by your news.
I feel privileged to have assisted with your ins needs over 29 some years, until my retirement. Watching the kids go off to college in their Toyotas with over 400K km set my bucket list to someday purchase a Toyota from you. It greatly angered the Ford gods, with 3 not at fault accidents in the 1st month. but you made it happen! It will be my forever vehicle!
I’ll remember your constant smile & keep you all in our thoughts & prayers. I hope today your hearts will be full of all the love surrounding you.

Dear Ron, Shirley and Family
We are so sad to hear about your diagnosis Ron.
True to your character you are accepting this by having a celebration of your life while you are here to enjoy it. It is such a great event that you and Shirley have planned for today.
You have touched so many lives with your great smile, sense of humour and being a friend to everyone. I have great memories of you Ron, the high school dances, gravel running, and always lots of laughs.
We are unable to attend your celebration today in person but will be there in spirit and we will have a toast to you tonight.🥂
Ron, may you know how much you meant to everyone that you crossed paths with.
Sending love and hugs to you, Shirley and family 🙏🏻

Ron ,there are not many condolences offered “to friends” ,as opposed to “for friends “.
You have always been a game changer. This” pre celebration” of life speaks volumes of the person that you are.
We had a couple of deals made over the years. I remember when my Mom and Dad were in the market to buy a house in Zurich, I had heard you and Shirley might be moving to Exeter.
I spoke with the both of you ,and it wasn’t long before a deal was struck .My parents were to be the proud owners of one of the most desirable homes in Zurich at that time. A couple of personal touches left in that house by you two ,were the custom made stained glass window inserts in the dining room and a bedroom. I recall Ben and Jenna’s name etched in a cement pad you poured in front of the garage .
Another was when you sold me Shirley’s 1982 Black Oldsmobile Cutlass T -Top, your sales pitch that day was…. “Just think Lorraine driving down the road ,hair blowing in the wind with those T-tops out “ it was like you played a virtual commercial in my mind …SOLD!
All the best to you Ron, Shirley, Ben, Jenna and family.
Ron be Blessed in your next adventure.💙

We like others have memories that involve you that make us smile and chuckle. He tells me it was quite a trip and I can only imagine!!
You are a great person Ron and clearly have touched the lives of many! Enjoy your Celebration tomorrow!

Dear: Ron, Shirley, Ben, Jenna & Families . . . Rader/DeVries Families . . .
Ron, I was so deeply shocked, saddened & sorry to learn the unbelievable news about your illness from Shirley the day of the school picnic while attending lunch with our Grandchildren at Exeter Public School. I was at a loss for words wondering why this happened to you, along with your beautiful family. Life is so unfair at times, why does this happen to such nice people, like yourself. I can’t begin to imagine all the emotions you are dealing with right now – it must be so overwhelming & hard to comprehend, but you are one-of-kind – tackling & handling the reality of your illness with such grace, courage & dignity. Ron, God must have a big plan for you as he only takes the best.
The genuine outpouring of comments online from family, friends, neighbours, & community demonstrates the profound impact you have had on everyone that has ever known you.
My first encounter with you, Ron was as school classmates while attending Zurich Public School & then again in high school. You started dating Shirley, became high school sweethearts – you two were the cutest couple & were meant to be soulmates forever. I admire your love & admiration for each other & the milestone years you have been married. You both were so proud of your million-dollar family, Ben & Jenna, watching them grow into the most extraordinary adults themselves. You taught them so many valuable life lessons but most importantly – shown them LOVE. Family means everything!
I remember the chit chats at” The Ridge” on Friday night fish & chips. Jenna was usually our waitress & she would tell us where you were seated. Shirley & I would share our horse stories (which usually lasted awhile) you & Clare talked about God knows what.
Another encounter that I remember was one day I needed a different, dependable vehicle. I approached Ron at the old Exeter Toyota location & asked if he had anything used & within my price range. He called me back right away mentioning he had the perfect vehicle a Toyota RAV 4 coming in on a trade, he gave me his price & I asked him to sharpen his pencil & give me a different price which he certainly did. I trusted Ron completely & purchased this vehicle which ended up being the best vehicle I ever owned.
Ron, you mean so much to so many family & friends. You have a heart-of-gold, the biggest smile that beams from ear to ear, an infectious laugh but most importantly your incredible courage shown to all of us. I know this community will be talking about you & your family for a very long time – you have started a new trend on how to live each day to the fullest.
We will miss you Ron, you will not be forgotten your memory will forever live on in our hearts & your legacy will live on through your children & grandchildren. May God help you in your journey, grant you peace & bless your family with only the most treasured memories & so much love in their hearts.
Wishing you and your family strength, love, and peace in the days ahead.
We are so blessed & privileged to have you & your family as friends. We will be at your “Life Celebration” on the 23rd to help you celebrate your life with joy, laughter, & memories. May it be a beautiful sunny day so we can toast to your life well lived & the wonderful man that you are. 💞🙏💞

That’s Quite the Journey, Ron Selling cars was your passion – family was your life. You were passionate about your job and you were good at it – very good. In a 44 year span, you chalked up close to 8000 new and used car sales, and the story isn’t finished yet. You are waiting delivery of at least nine more new vehicles to add to the total. Considering you were working in a rural market, that’s impressive by any standards. Ron was the epitome of successful car salesmanship.
When you get a new vehicle and it turns out to be exactly what you wanted and lives up to all your expectations, you say you bought it. If things don’t work out so well and you have a dud on your hands, it was some SOB that sold it to you. Funny how we think that way.
Ron was not a flashy, hardcore salesman, far from it. He had his own, no-pressure style and a knack of being able to separate you from your money and leaving you feeling good about it. Ron built long- lasting relationships – his customers became life-long friends.
You called Ron when you wanted a new set of wheels. Yes, you would get the low-key sales pitch, followed by a test drive, a firm handshake and a warm smile – and then you found yourself proudly driving away from the dealership in a new vehicle.
Ron was old school when it came to car sales and he wasn’t a great fan of modern technology where transactions are often made without the salesman and customer ever coming into contact. He had a long list of customers who willingly referred their friends and came back themselves whenever they wanted a new vehicle.
Over a period of 40 years, I had about a dozen cars with the Ron Rader stamp on them; add family, and that figure doubles
Motorized transport always figured prominently in Ron’s private life, too. An avid RV enthusiast., motor cyclist, even sometime drag racer – and then throw in a snowmobile or two and the odd pick-up truck – Ron covered all the bases. Yet, he found time to play rec hockey, and only quit two years ago.
In recent years, it has been trips to the beaches around Lake Huron and regular weekend gatherings of friends (likely all customers !). They were always all family affairs, with wife, Shirley and the two children, Ben and Jenna completing the picture.
It’s been quite the journey, and I for one, certainly don’t know anyone who can claim more smiles per gallon than Ron Rader. Happy trails my friend.
George & Helen Pratt

Dear, Ron, Shirley, Ben and Jenna:
You have all been in our thoughts these past few months. What a brave and strong human you are, Ron. We have lots of good memories, dealing with you at Exeter Toyota, your smiles and jokes were always free! We know how much our brother and sister have treasured your support and friendship over the years. Your kindness has not gone unnoticed by our family. Your circle of friends and family will in turn support your loved ones in the days and years to come. I am sure your celebration will bring a multitude of emotions as those you have loved and supported gather to support you and Shirley and your family. We wish you all peace and much love in the days ahead. Pete and Wendy Case and family

Sending love and strength to all of you during this difficult time. I remember reaching out to Ron wanting to buy a Toyota Camry. Our family made the drive to Exeter and Ron showed us a Camry but made mention the trunk was to small for hockey sticks and hockey bags. You won’t have any room for your suitcase Marion for the weekend hockey tournaments was his sales pitch. Ron said he had the perfect family vehicle. A Toyota Previ! Well before I knew the Camry was out and the Previ was in. Between Mike and him I don’t think I had a chance. Cheers to your celebration of life and sending hugs to all of you! xo

So saddened to hear of your diagnosis Ron. There are many years of memories beginning as neighbours in Zurich as children to becoming great friends as couples with young families & playing sports together. Even though life separated us geographically, we will have these memories forever. We will always remember that great smile & infectious laugh. It is so like you & Shirley to handle whatever life deals you with such dignity, grace & courage. May God help you in your journey.

Ron, Shirley, Ben, Jenna and families, Jerry, Carol, Marlene and families, DeVries family: Ron you have been a friendly, fun-loving man all your life. You were a salesman at a young age…selling your sister’s bike, and your Mom’s baking! We always appreciated dealing with you at Toyota for our Corollas. You gave us awesome deals. I remember you and Shirley in High School. You were never without a big smile and mischievous grin. We will see you on Saturday to thank you for being the wonderful man you are. We will miss you. So very sorry to hear this sad news. We always had such great times together at Grand Bend Motorplex over our years of racing and at racing parties, Norwalk, etc. Remember the time a certain someone burned a dresser and a church pew at our campfire?……And the time you were having a ‘wine & cheese party’ in your camper during that funnel cloud out on the water while at the Motorplex, Bryan & Casey were trying to hold down our awning on our trailer so it wouldn’t go flying & you were looking over at them. We still laugh about that. Thinking of you all. God bless.
Bill & Joanne Hodge
Ron, So sorry to hear you are going through this. We are thinking of you and your family.
Jetty Veld van Herwijnen
Dear Ron & Shirley, we are deeply shocked about this unbelievable sad news. Our thoughts are with you.
I still remember the day that your relation more or less started in Holland. Ron was at my parents home with some friends and Shirley was there also.. My days at your place long time ago, with my brother Bart, still give me great memories.
It was a great time, we even got your bed! The fresh bacon for breakfast and the big family BBQ will stay in my heart. Thinking off you 🙏🏻
Love! Jetty Veld van Herwijnen and Jan

We are thinking of you all and holding you close in our thoughts and prayers at this time.
Ron, we are very saddened to hear of your diagnosis. We are also extremely inspired by the way you have chosen to accept things and truly celebrate your well lived life! You are “breaking new ground” here (no surprise) and it’s wonderful! I will see you on the 23rd. You and I go back a long way to our Zurich roots. Attending St. Peter’s Lutheran Church together, working at both Huron Motor Products Zurich and then Frayne Chev-Olds Exeter together . You certainly were a very positive influence in my life and one of the reasons I chose a career in sales. Your cheery outlook, humorous demeanour and big smile has always been admirable. It truly has been a pleasure and a blessing to know you Ron.
Julie and I enjoyed dealing with you at Frayne Toyota as well. We wish you all the very best as you manage the coming time in your life’s journey, finding the ultimate peace that you so deserve.
Sincerely, Mark & Julie Heimrich, Sarah, Scott & Spencer

When I think of you, Ron Rader, I think of your infectious smile. Always smiling. Always friendly and would always stop to talk. Although I never owned a Toyota, it wasn’t for lack of trying. You were the man, the Toyota man! You have definitely left your mark on your community and friends. And will leave loved ones, friends and acquaintances with lots of memories. Wishing you and your family strength, love and peace.
Roger and Jan Dougall
What a truly wonderful way to face this challenge. Your positivity and sunny outlook always made it fun to be your company. No doubt you are also an amazing father-in-law and grandpa. Hugs to all of you during this difficult time.

Ron & Family,
We are so very sorry to hear of your health diagnosis.
Such an admirable, yet difficult decision you have made.
I remember stories from dad (Glen Overholt) back in the Buckeye days. Us kids always looked forward to the after game shenanigans, when the wives were greeted to join in the dressing room for drinks and us kids ran wild throughout the arena.
You always greeted us with an infectious smile and gentle disposition at Toyota.
I wish you the absolute best at your celebration next weekend, full of love & laughter….your deserve it…..and pray for you and your family at this very difficult time….God Bless!
John and Linda Wuerth

Veronica Bedard
Dear Ron
It’s Veronica Bedard. (Jimmy wife). Remembering when you were neighbour to us at the grocery store apartment…you were just a little fellow. We shared the bathroom….lol
Many times I went over to your house to watch over the pies in the oven while your mom ran errands. You and Shirley lived down the street from us at the end of Rosalee…as all our leaves would blown down your way. Remembering when you and Jimmy went to the Dale Carnegie course in London. I hope to see you and Shirley and your family on July 23….if not
Lots of love to all of you. I think you are the most courageous person…I will always treasure all the memories of you. God Bless and keep you safe in his arms.
Hugs from Veronica

A true friend….
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I have many great memories. I remember playing minor hockey together especially the 69-70 Bantam all-Ontario team….52 years ago! Then later with the Buckeyes, Polar Kings and Hasbeans.
Remember the night in Seaforth when a bit of a skirmish started on our line’s first shift. Either you started something yourself or had to cover for pipper. The young referee was going to kick you out of the game. You said you were not driving to Seaforth for half a shift. I think you talked your way out of it, even though our bench was telling the ref to kick you out.
Ron, sometimes our shifts seem too short. We are thinking of you, Shirley and your family. We hope you enjoy the celebration, a very courageous but fitting idea to make.
Lyle Little
Ron was our favorite car salesman. Hi smile will be missed.

Ron, I can still remember you pulling in the laneway to pick me up on your go kart. I was 9 and I think you around 12. We ripped down the streets of Zurich and I couldn’t stop laughing. I’m sure you don’t remember this but it was something that has stuck with me 55 years later. You took the time to hang with a pint size kid three years your younger. Our many sparring matches at HMP and Exeter Toyota for the best deal will also be in my memory. God speed to you on behalf of Lois, myself and the whole Hess clan.

Ron this you to give everyone a chance to celebrate your life. And what life you are so much fun to be around I had the privilege to play hockey with you and have you as friend. So many hockey stories so much fun Buckeyes, Polar Kings, Rec League, then to the best the Hasbeans you always the one guy that everyone was hoping that you would go to the tournaments because of you being a great hockey player first ,but most of all because of all the fun we are going to have because of Ron antics so much fun. I will see on the 23 not say goodbye but say thanks for being such great friend and team mate.

Ron, even thought the years have taken us in somewhat different geographical directions you will always be a friend from Zurich that I grew up with. I enjoyed playing ball, having a beer or just spending time with.
Life sometimes throws us a curve that we wish had never been thrown.
Cherish the time you have, however long or short with your family and friends.
The Good Lord will look after the rest.
All the best and enjoy the celebration.

January 3, 1984 Ron on his way home to Zurich , stopped by to help give us a ride to the farm . We had hit a big drift of snow which put our vehicle in the ditch. We certainly appreciated that kind gesture Ron. I had a blueberry pie on my lap for my dad’s birthday .
We were always happy to chat with Ron when at the Toyota dealership. Always a joke or two to share.
Thinking of all of you!

Dear Ron, Shirley and Family
Would that we could all face our own mortality with such courage, grace, dignity, and humour..!! The many tributes and remembrances that your message has elicited speak volumes to a life well lived, friendships made and treasured, and special memories left in the hearts and minds of those that have had the privilege of knowing you. Your legacy is one of honour and love, with just enough mischief tossed in to have made life interesting and fun. You are going to be a ‘hard act to follow’ but you have taken giant steps in showing us how it can be done..!! Thank you.
Not ‘good bye’ – just ‘au revoir’ – until we meet again on the other side…
Sincerely,
Inge

I appreciate the fact that you have decided to give your friends and acquaintances the opportunity to say good-bye personally on July 23. I am grateful for your friendship over the past forty plus years and I will miss your wit and wisdom. I will especially miss that occasional glint of your eye when realizing that your mischievous side has been responsible for someone’s comical misfortune. See you on the 23rd Ron.
Jessie Brown
Ron, when I think of you, I think of my dad, Brownie. My memories of you and dad are ones that bring me such happiness. The roar of laughter that took place will forever be etched in my mind. Some great story-telling with humorous punchlines took place at those Has-Beans tourneys. I don’t think too many teenage girls would have enjoyed sitting around with their dad and his friends at a hockey tournament on the weekend of her birthday but it was the opposite for me. I couldn’t wait for those tournaments because I was able to listen to some kind, quick witted men, joke around and leave the seriousness of everyday life for another day. You and many of the other Has-Bean families taught me what friendship & the importance of having fun is all about. Thank you for being a part of that and for being such a wonderful friend to my dad, my mama and by lucky chance, myself. Hugs to you and your family.
Harv & Evelyn Vincent
