It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dwayne Garvin Tinney of Exeter, Ontario, who passed away unexpectedly on April 25, 2023, at South Huron Hospital, following a short illness.
Dwayne was the best friend and loving husband of Donna Tinney (Kerslake), with whom they shared their love of gardening, travel, family and friends. He was the proud father of Darren and Nathalie Tinney (Noel) of Marathon and Harlen and Rene Tinney (Redhead) of Mississauga, and loving Papa to Cole, Trent (Claire Frake), Ben and Meagyn. He is fondly remembered by the Kerslake Family and many nieces and nephews. He was the son of Lolus (McClinchey) (D) and Jack Tinney (D) and the beloved brother of Linda Tinney (D), Karen (D) and Doug Shirray of Tavistock, Joan Tinney of Victoria BC, Carol and Quentin Laws of Nanaimo BC, and Heather Tinney of London. Remembered by his step-mother Peggy (Iles) Tinney and her family. Predeceased by his wife Marian (May). Dwayne was born in 1938 and raised on the family farm in Hay Township. In school, he learned to sing and play piano and drums which started a musical career that included the Crescendos, Woody and the Main Street Jug Band and Whiskey Jack. He worked at General Coach in Hensall, Northlander in Exeter and eventually moved into real estate in the 1980s from which he retired in 2022. He loved to fish and vacation with his friends and family in Northern Ontario, with each week filled with food, games and laughter. He was a strong man with a soft-heart and lives forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Tuesday evening from 6 – 9 PM.
Dwayne’s funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, May 3rd at 11 AM. Dwayne would want everyone to come dressed casually to both the visitation and the funeral.
Stream the service live or at your convenience by visiting www.facebook.com/haskettfh.
Donations in memory of Dwayne may be made to Ronald McDonald House or the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation.

Dwayne holds a place in my childhood memories, when our families spent time together, swapping kids for the weekends. He holds a place in my memories of my dad and hearing many stories from him and Jamie on your fishing trips. To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die, and I know your dad lives on in many people’s hearts.
Sincerely,

Dwayne and I had so many great times in Whiskey Jack Music Company I lost count. They are some of the best memories I have in my life. They say that the drummer in a band and the bass player must be in sync to create a solid foundation for the rest of the band members. Dwayne and I were in sync not only musically but in so many ways. When Dwayne was your friend it was for life. I will miss his quirky smile when he would deliberately mispronounce a lyric to get a reaction from me. Dwayne’s commitment to family, neighbours and friends was unparalleled. Our thoughts will be with Donna , Darren, Harlan and their families.

The first time I saw Dwayne Tinney he was playing drums in a band, and my cousin Glenn Knott was playing the base. I cant remember now the name of the band or who else played in it, but they sure sounded good in those days during the 50s and 60s. Dwayne was always an old bear cat to go but no matter how busy he was, Dwayne would always take a few minutes to talk. Our condolences go out to Dwayne’s wife and family.

So many memories of the entire Tinney family! From spending time as a kid growing up with Darren and Harlen, multiple Whiskey Jack parties both at dances and around the piano at our house after, helping Gord and I purchase our first home, and many years of fishing trips. Gords favourite memory of Dwayne is “knocking while playing 31 and then his deep laugh because he knew someone was going to lose that nickel”! May all of your wonderful memories get you through this tough time.💕💕
