Beste Rachel

De laatste telefoongesprekjes zullen me zeker bijblijven omdat nonkel altijd positief bleef ingesteld.

We always enjoyed our visits to your home.
Dad enjoyed talking about farming and we all enjoyed our wonderful conversations with Hugo (and Rachel) over dessert and coffee.
We appreciated it that you kept in touch with mom after dad passed away.
Rest in Peace.

To our dear Tante Rachel, so, so sorry for your loss of your dear Hugo. I know you will miss him very much. My family just loved our visits to your home, I only wished we had done it more often.
Like many of Hugo’s friends we truly enjoyed his great smile and heartfelt hugs. Those will be missed but not forgotten.

Eadiea and Paul Fleming
Eadiea: Hugo had the best smile, his whole face lit up. He was one of the most thoughtful and generous persons I knew, always ready to help when needed and gave great hugs. He had a good life and was blessed with a wonderful wife Rachel and too many friends to count. I count him as a good friend. Will miss him terribly. Thanks for showing up with a surprise, a very large jug of fresh maple syrup and the advice: “it tastes good on ice cream”.
Paul: We started out as landlord and tenant. Over time we became neighbours and friends. Hugo’s decency shone, like a light, behind his smile. Last night (before we heard that he had passed) we had a perfect rainbow and ran out to take pictures. I told Eadiea that Hugo may have sent it. Toward dark I went for my walk along Maguire Road, and in the wood Hugo called his “Sanctuary” were scores of fireflies. They mystified me in some wordless way before I had a chance to get their meaning wrong. Hugo, our neighbour and friend: Go rest High on that Mountain.
