Joseph Shetter Wadel passed away peacefully at Kippen, Ontario on Friday, October 21, 2016 after a struggle with failing health. He was born September 10, 1935 at Pinola, PA to the late Harry and Emma Jane (Shetter) Wadel. Beloved husband of Orpha Ruth (Boll) Wadel who were married on September 24, 1955, and were blessed with 61 years together. In his youth gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized at the Rowe Mennonite church. He was ordained to the ministry in 1963 at the Mt. Airy Mennonite Church, where he served as deacon. He also served at the Hopewell Mennonite Church, Mt. Airy Maryland from 1968 to 1980, and after moving toBritish Columbia, he served at the Vanderhoof Mennonite Church, from 1980 to 1998. In his retiring years, Joe and Orpha moved to the Lakeview Congregation in Ontario. Along with his wife Orpha, he is survived by five children; Linda, wife of Thomas Bender, Kippen, Ontario; Luanne, wife of Timothy Plett, Austin, Manitoba; Jerry, husband of Esther Guenter, Creston, British Columbia; Jason, husband of Janice Guenter, Montney, British Columbia; and Carol, wife of Nevin Brubaker, Myerstown, Pennsylvania, 39 grandchildren, and 40 great grandchildren.
Also surviving is one brother, David, and his wife Ruth, of Washington Boro, Pennsylvania; one sister Doris ,wife of the late John Sollenberger; Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; and one sister-in-law, Betty (Runkles) Wadel, wife of the late Mark Wadel, of Westminster, Maryland, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers; Ralph, and his wife Elizabeth, John, Paul and Mark; and one sister, Gladys, and her husband Willis Halteman, 2 granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Viewing will be held at the Lakeview Conservative Mennonite Church on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm. The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Lakeview meetinghouse with Merle Bauman, Paul Zehr and Marlin Wadel officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
