At LHSC-University Hospital on Saturday, June 11, 2022,of Lucan at the age of 83. Beloved wife of the late Harvey Ratz (2015). Adored mother of Janice and Glen Silver of Middlesex Centre, Scott and Brenda Westman of Sarnia, Marilyn and Pete Vande Borne of Middlesex Centre, Caroline Gatecliff and Glen Ritchie of Sarnia, and Sharon and Tim Filippi of London. She was much loved by her 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and her many nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by her brother Tom Shoebottom, sister Linda Hobbs, and grandson Wade Gatecliff.
Barb was truly one of kind. She was happy to be working as a real estate agent in to her 80’s, and cruising the countryside each and every day, bringing smiles and laughter, everywhere she went. When not out and about, she cherished the time that she spent with her grandchildren and the various activities with horses.
A private family graveside service will be held at St. John’s Cemetery, Arva.
If desired, donations to Villages United Church or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

We were saddened to hear of Barb’s passing. She was quite a lady and a true friend to our Mum Barb O’Brien. Your Mum stopped by a couple of years ago and was telling us stories of when she was a young girl and a teenager. She joined us for lunch and we had such a great visit. We told her that everytime our Mum was in the hospital she would always point to the curtains and say “See those curtains, Barb Westman made them”. Your Mum got a good laugh from that as she said she never sewed a day in her life. May she be at peace and know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Tom Ross
Dear Westman Family,
I always enjoyed my visits with your Mom/Grandma. We shared an ongoing joke in that my nickname for her from when I was a young boy was Sawdust. I think I remember it had something to do with a huge pile of sawdust where she used to live on Highbury Ave. If my memory is correct her family may have operated a sawmill? Anyway, she had a great sense of humour and we always enjoyed a laugh.
